Open Quicktime Player. A small window may appear suggesting some file types are not associated and will off to associate those with Quicktime, click No
In new window click Edit
Click Preferences at the bottom
Click Quicktime preferences
Remove any or all marks in the little boxes
Click Apply and OK
That should take care of things.

I tried that and clicked apply and I thought that was that, but of course nothing is that easy.

Once I unchecked the boxes and figured all is well, I find out that isn't the case. When I went back all of the checkmarks were back, clicking apply didn't do a thing.

Now I am confused, your directions were really good and I don't understand why those checkmarks came back. Any other ideas?

Well now, ain't that just a kick in the ribs.

You are correct. So I removed my Quicktime and re-installed the latest version hoping to have a tiny morsel of control during the install. How foolish of me! No chance that I had any options so I tried removing the associations again only to find as you did that they simply return. Oh how I hate these overbearing programs where programmers feel they are the only ones competent enough to know what we mere mortals need.

I then removed Quicktime again and went looking for alternatives. At this point I only see sites I am not comfortable with to download from so I need to go searching around. Never liked any program that takes over and only had Quicktime because a web site I maintain has a QT file. However they have now created a Youtube presence so I can remove the QT junk and simply link to the Youtube site. Oh happy day.

Later I'll search a bit more, in the meantime someone else may jump in with either a solution or a good QT replacement.

You might want to take the QT helper out of the Run at boot location. I dont know if it has a check box for that or you need to kill it in the registry.

I dont have QT program but do have the QT browser plug in for web pages that use it.

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you mikie, my twin sister is up here because her husband was air lifted to a hospital here. So my time has been greatly reduced going back and forth to the hospital etc.

How would I go about taking the QT helper out of the Run at boot location? If that didn't work how would I kill it in the registry. I am reluctant to mess with the registry because I don't know anything about it, I am always afraid that I would goof something up. Nervous nelly here. "Smiles"

I found out how to solve the problem. Someone else had posted this very subject on another forum.

If anyone else has this problem you can do this.

1. Right click on the picture or animation.
2. Choose Open With
3. Scroll down and click on Choose Program
4. Choose "Windows Picture & Fax Viewer
5. Put a checkmark in "Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file."

You can always go back in and choose where you want it to open with and then click OK.

Note: If you go back in to check and see if it stayed it will revert back to Quick Time and you will have to choose Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, all over again and put the checkmark back in. It stays put unless you go back in and choose another program to use.
