Sounds like something has gone wrong with the game, a short cut on the desk top is not a program it just points to it. Since you have the game on cd I would simply uninstall the game an reinstall it from the cd.

Whatever happened, happened after I did the Confiker, updating and scanning my security programs.

The disk isn't working. It worked the morning before I did that.

When I put the disk in, nothing happens.

The instructions that came with the disk say the program will start automatically, but if it doesn't, open up My Computer in IE browser and navigate to your CD-ROM drive by right clicking on its drive letter (usually D or E -look for the CD Icon) then click on Explore. Locate the launcher program PopCDrun.exe and double click the file to run it.

I get to PopCapGames, but there is no PopCDrun.exe.

Any ideas at this point?

Click>Start>Search click all files & folders in the (all or part of the file name box) copy & paste this---> PopCDrun.exe into it see what comes up windows will search for it.

The other thing you could try is put the cd in an restart the computer see what happens there it should start the cd..

When mine doesn't work automatically I click on my computer, then on the drive to open the CD and click on the setup icon.

this is something that may well happen now to many people since one of the fixes for conficker is to disable auto run, you will now not get some of the immediate instructions/reactions when inserting a disc or usb drive that you did before auto run was disabled. You may have to do those steps manually.

sue it sounds like when you say you get to popcapgames that you are actually going to the website? if so that is not where you need to be.
You will have to go to your My computer> to your drive letter for your cd player> right click> find the exe and double click it.

Raven, I only I get to PopCapGames, but there is no PopCDrun.exe.

I do believe the problem is related to what I did trying to do the Confiker thing.

Try this, in My Computer/D: (where you see PopCapGames) click on Tools and then Folder Options. On the View tab, make sure that there is a dot next to Show All Files and Folders and especially make sure that there is NOT a check next to Hide Extensions for Known File Types. Now can you see PopCDrun.exe or Setup.exe (in case the directions used the incorrect syntax)? Do any files show up in that folder? If you see nothing inside the folder, try cleaning the disk and checking again.

pkponder, I followed your instructions. No PopCDrun.exe or Setup.exe either.

I even cleaned the disk; still nothing.

I guess it is time to call in the troops and spend big money for a mistake I made.

Better I should have let Conficker have its way!!

Wow, I'd try another disk before throwing in the towel. It would be a shame to spend money on a tech if it's just a bad disk!

When you go to PopCapGames, what do you see there? The contents of the CD didn't change with the Conficker removal. Autorun may have been disabled, but the contents of the CD are still there.

bpgreen, I see a folder:Bookworm Deluxe. Click that I see Players. Click that I see Sue. Click on that I see Classic. Clicking on that takes me to Notepad with gobbledegook.

I went back and read my original Question.

I stated that I had removed Bookworm from CP/Add/Remove/Change/Remove. This was when Bookworm had already gone missing, and I wanted to put it back.

Would that be the problem?

I'm confused. You're saying that when you look at the CD you're seeing players. I don't see how that's possible. That might be on the hard drive, but not the CD.

It looks like you uninstalled the game. You need to install it from the CD.

The fact that you're seeing player information tells me that you're not looking at the CD and that's why you're not seeing the install program.

What would happen if you Googled "Bookworm delux Game" I wonder if there is anything available ?

My DVD-RW Drive E is "dead" and I will be getting a replacement.
