Looking for pics of silver Thermador induction cooktop
Comments (12)I believe only the GE Monogram black induction model comes without stainless frame. I think the slightly less expensive GE Profile model comes with stainless frame--although the specs appear to be basically identical. I've seen the Profile 36" in black at $1,789 with the Profile stainless at $1,959. The Mongrams are probably $100-$200 more. I think I will either get get the Monogram 36" black frameless or the Monogram 36" stainless with stainless frame. This might make life easier for more electricians to put in a 30-40 amp fuse and most everyone has 20 amps already. The downside is that although it is being imported by Salon in North Carolina, I wonder how good the service could be as their are no trained De Dietrich repairmen or women in the field. I'm sure it can be worked around with an electrician diagnosing your problem and the importer bringing in the part or parts, but it is something to think about. Of course, I would definitely buy an extended warranty on either the GE or the De Dietrich. As the De Dietrich isn't made for the US market I doubt their warranty is worth anything. You'd have to buy the warranty from the importer--be it overseas or in North Carolina. I imagine you can buy third party warranties from Warrantech, Philips, etc. But I would certainly ask them first as induction units are far ofdf the beaten path for third party warranty companies....See MoreThermador or Miele 30" induction cooktop?!?
Comments (3)I've had my Thermador one year. I do get an error code occasionally when I wash it with too much water - it seems to be sensitive to water in the control area. I dry it and the error disappears. I've also successfully prevented the error codes by locking the cooktop before I wash it. Another reason I went with Thermador was the metal strip around all edges. A friend cracked her induction edge when she hit it with a pan. The edgeless cooktops look nice, but are definitely more fragile. Best of luck with your decision!...See MoreDon't get Thermador's mirrored induction cooktop
Comments (5)MFatt, I chose this one because I thought it was $3,500 worth of cool. I had a portable induction unit first and loved it, and I even had a loaner from Thermador with the black surface while this mirrored one was on backorder. I had no problems with it. I *suspect* that something is new and different about the mirrored finishes made this year based on a couple of things I overheard. A new material perhaps, or a different manufacturer? I'm just guessing. I liked the zoneless one too, but I always try to get products that have been around awhile and had the kinks worked out. Ha! 2LittleFishies, I'm impressed that you got a mirrored one 5 months ago. We ordered our appliances early this year and learned in March that the mirrored cooktop was on backorder. I called a few other appliance stores in town, and they too said none were available. Perhaps you had one of the cooktops from the "last batch". Glad it's working for you! You probably don't want to trade, do you?...See MoreThermador Liberty Induction Cooktop
Comments (16)We’ve been using our new Liberty for five months now. It looks great with its silver mirrored finish. As far as cooking with it goes, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. The power boost setting is certainly impressive and can boil a pot of water insanely fast. But when you look at the bottom of the pot of water, you can see that the heat is not applied evenly. There are localized spots where the heat is obviously intense and other areas where it is much less so. I also noticed uneven heating when cooking pancakes, both in a circular frying pan, as well as on a rectangular griddle. When I use the griddle, I turn on adjacent burners so the heat can reach as far as possible across the griddle. Still, some pancakes cook much faster than others, depending on where they are on the griddle. Also, settings, one through four are almost indistinguishable. They apply very minimal heat to the pot. If I had a small sauce pan with a couple of cups of warm soup, I would have to set it at least on three to maintain, reasonable warmth. The settings one and two are too low to be of any real use. If I wanted to slowly fry an egg, I would have to use setting number six at least. So most of our cooking uses settings, seven thru nine (the highest setting, except for power boost). All in all, I enjoy using our new cooktop, but I think Thermador should have designed it better, so that the cooktop heats more evenly, and that the lower settings are more useful....See More2LittleFishies
