Snowman collection

Thought I'd snap a pic of my snowman collection for those who missed them last year. I do have a few more scattered here and there around the house, but this is the majority of them. Sorry the pictures are not better, I should have closed the blinds since it was dusk out, and the outside view is distracting.

Really nice snowmen. I like your collection, but the one that stands out for me is the guy with the red vest. He is so cute.

Thank you for all your kind words. It means a lot to me. I do have to chuckle at myself, though. I got my dates off with everyone home for so many days over the holidays. *Yestereday* was Twelfth Night, not today! I do know that it's the 6th, but thought that today was the 6th! Oh well. Syble: Yes, my good friend is a great crafter. She's made me many decs over the years, including the two Christmas Bear candy jars that you can see next to the kitchen sink. Jaybird: too funny! I'd forgotten how late you were posting last year's Christmas pics. We can be The Late Team here ;^D Luckygal: thanks for your comps and for the link, too. As for the painting on the antique window in my powder room, it's a piece I bought from an artist here many years ago. It's a reverse painting of three santos (saints). I LOVE paintings on old windows, and paintings and photos of interesting windows, as well. I wonder what some psychiatrist would say about us because of that(LOL)? Milosmom: thank you, that's such a sweet thing to say! DG: Now you can see why your wonderful tablescape using your own Christmas village pieces excited and inspired me so much. I'm already planning on using some of my pieces next year on a holiday table. What a great idea, DG! Phonegirl: thanks, I'm loving those dishes, too. They look so cozy and honey to me. Karen, I'm glad my pics aren't too late, thanks! I do love our family tree. I should have included a pic of the F-P "ornaments". They really are cute. I'm glad you remembered that it was Luvs who alerted us about the cardinals. I'll thank her in a minute, as I love how great they work on my mantel. As for your Christmas Village, maybe we can both try using some of our pieces in a tablescape, a la DreamGoddess', next year. Gosh, that was a great table idea! Kathleen: thanks! Will you give us a little seminar someday soon on photographing tablescapes? Either here or on your blog? I do remember you telling me to use a tripod. I need to do that, as many of my pics were blurry again this year. Any more helpful hints would be MUCH appreciated! Jeanne: I'm glad you and others here can appreciate our Southwestern decorating. I can imagine how different it could look to people not from here. As for my newest Phil Sonier photo, we're really enjoying it. This is the one Coldwater Creek used on it's catalogs for years. Phil told me that he actually saw it on a billboard advertising CWC when he was in Kenya once! That's a loooong way from Albuquerque! When it first came out on CWC, there was this big debate as to whether it was a wolf or a bear. I knew right away, but Phil confirmed it to me himself . . . it's a wolf. Luvs: and thank you for the great heads up on those cardinals! What a great buy for so little money. Yes, it was the best gift to have our DS home with us over Christmas. I miss him already. Jane: your compliments mean a lot to me, as I'm a huge fan of your own decorating and tablescaping talents. Thank you. OA: You can come anytime and be be a real guest here! "HL" is short for the store chain, Hobby Lobby. The Pecan Crusted Beef Tenderloins were fabulous. We found the recipe in Food & Wine. As for my trifle, no it's not hard, but it does take a while to get it all together. I first slice pound cake into long, thin, 1/4" slices and let them dry out a bit. Then I spread half of them with seedless raspberry jam, cover them with the other half and cut into 1" cubes. I sprinkle them with Marsala wine and then layer them in a large, footed, clear glass trifle bowl. The layers are the pound cake cubes, my homemade custard, fresh berries and tiny mint leaves, and broken (real, Italian) Amaretti cookies. I top it with mounds of fresh whipped cream, toasted slivered almonds, berries and mint leaves. Back in Victorian time, it was called a Tipsy Trifle because liquor was used in it. Anyhoo, it's wonderful and we all love it every Christmas Day dinner. Let me know if you ever want the recipe itself. Lynn

Minnie, I'll look forward to seeing your snowmen. They have such happy little faces--makes you smile just to look at them, doesn't it? Thanks Sandi--I do enjoy that window space. I always wanted a bow window, but guess this is the next best thing. Haven't put any window treatment up on them except for the blinds. Love being able to look out, and just can't decide what would look good there. Only been in this house four years! Ha ha Everyone seems to look at the view outside and don't seem to miss curtains! Gosh, I was really touched by your story. First of all, let me tell you how very sorry I am about Toby. My lab just turned 11, so I know I might have a few years left with him if it is in God's plan. He is my pride and joy and I know I will be devastated when he has to go. That said, what I came away with from your list of dear loved ones that have passed on...is that you have lost so many dear to you..but when you flip that around it means you have been so blessed to have that much love surround you your entire life. Many people don't have anyone or hardly anyone in their lives that mean so much to them. I know it doesn't make the hurt any less. My mama has been gone for close to 2 years and hardly a day goes by that I don't miss her so much it feels the world is crushing me. But I take one day at a time knowing she wouldn't want me sad all the time. And I have had several signs from her. I can imagine her shaking her head and saying 'what else do I have to do to let you know I am okay?' LOL> They have been pretty strong signals. Hi Oknish, Golly, I have no idea on what type of gourds those are. I have a couple left, one half painted. My sister and BIL had planted them a few years back. I think the shape of these would work for a birdhouse, but I haven't tried that yet. Does it have to be a special kind of gourd for a birdhouse? I thought the idea of gluing something like a ring or wooden base on the bottom was a good idea. I'll have to try that when I dig my snowman out this year. I am glad you are enjoying coming by to see what we have been up to. This little forum often gets pretty slow, but Anj and I keep stopping by every morning. Then sometimes, some of the other gals come by and chat with us or post some new eye candy for us to enjoy. If you do any painting on your birdhouses, we'd love to see them. And even if you don't paint and just enjoying seeing what's going on, we would love to hear your comments or ideas anytime. So can you share what your name stands for? It is unique. ;o) Luvs

Marylee, yes that is the back of the train outside on the window shelf--like I said, I should have closed the blinds. I'm not very good at photography I'm afraid.

Arcy, that's interesting that your's don't come out until after Christmas. Be sure to share a pic with us later on, okay?

Karen, I do love the variety. Allot of these are the soft ones. I used some of the ceramic ones on the buffet, kitchen counter, and the snowman/woman cookie jar on the kitchen table. I also have the cute salt/pepper and spoon holders you sent me last year in the kitchen too. ;o)

Luna, I didn't paint the tall snowman--grabbed him up at a craft show because I loved everything about him! I did paint the one with the red vest and the one with the bird on his hat.

Most of the rest of these have been gifts from friends and coworkers--when I was working. I just love their happy little faces and love them all.

Want to know which one is my most favorite? See the guy who looks like a spring? He just cracks me up because he "wiggles" all over when you touch him! LOL

So CUTE, luvs! There's just something about snowmen ....they make you smile! And you being a former Mid-westerner know that you need to smile when you live with the real thing, WINTER & SNOW!

You've got a super collection there. I like the fact that you've got snowmen made from lots of different materials. I never thought about it, but when some of the above posters mention how they ALWAYS make a person smile, I think they are exactly right.

just so sweet Luvs - they put a smile on my face last year and again this year. I don't think there is a child out there that doesn't long to build at least ONE snowman in their lifetime TFS .....

Such a cute collection, and if I remember correctly...you painted the snowman in the back-middle? My mom would love these, snowmen and angels are her favs.

Very cute! We live in Wisconsin, so snowmen are apropos from November on.

Luvs, I see that you have snow out your window. I bet they look wonderful in the daylight when you can see them and the background of snow.

Peoniesandposies, no snow here except up on top of the mountains we can see out our front window! We are in southern California. What you are seeing is the concrete patio and my white planters around it full of blooming roses! LOL It was getting dark out when I snapped these pictures, would look completely different in the daylight.

Judith, I used your suggestion from a couple years ago and added the fake snow batting, ties them all together better.

Luvs...I enjoyed seeing your Snowmen collection again.
You're lucky to have such a great windowsill to display them.
There's something about Snowmen that always make you smile, and the two you painted really stand out.
I think with the Blizzard we're having here, the kids will be making them too.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad to have that window ledge so I can put them all out together too. My santa collection is smaller, so they get the shelf above the television in the family room--but I didn't put them out this year.

DH and I were laughing that they have a nice backdrop since we've recently had several days of rain (it stopped for Christmas eve and Christmas Day, wasn't that considerate?)the mountains north of us now have beautiful snow capped peaks now. Yes, it's nice to see it but not have to shovel it or drive in it! ;o)
