Help choose between Bosch and Miele Dishwasher
Comments (14)hum............mom46 - I'm sorry you are unhappy with your DW, but you bought the bottom of the barrel, EL CHEAPO, lowest quality, plastic bottomed Bosch that often sells for less than $500. burn-side is looking at the top of the range , made in Germany, $2000 ++ model that has an all stainless tub and a water softener. BBBBBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGG difference between what you have. Furthermore - your Bosch and all others WILL dry dishes. They won't completely dry facet or groove laden THIN PLASTIC items like tupperware or sippy cups. But then again neither will a model with a "heated dry" function ! They will both dry china, ceramic and glass and thick plastic/acrylic dishes just fine , if used properly. Yes it has longer cycles than your previous 20 year old DW. So do all models from all brands today - even American makes like Kitchen Aid and GE . Unless you're running a short order diner and need dishes turned over what difference does it make whether the cycle is 52 minutes or 1 hour and 37 ??? You can't wait around for either one. If you have standing water - your product has not been installed properly or it's defective (though less likely) . Racks being efficient are a matter of personal taste so I won't chide you much here. I will point you back to your el Cheapo model and tell you that you have the least sturdy and adjustable rack in the Bosch lineup. Yes, rinse aid is compulsory in all european dishwashers. A drag for some , but with this need comes the freedom to place plastic items in any rack with out fear of melting ! To each his own. BTW - you might want to do a little bit of homework before you spout out stats like 45% and Kenmore is sooooooo great. Betcha didn't know that Bosch manufactures some of those relabeled Kenmore DWs....See MoreBosch or Miele Dishwasher
Comments (9)I've had the Miele Diamante Plus G2143SC with the Clean Touch Stainless door for a month now. We started with a GE Profile, which lasted about 1.5 years, then had an Electorlux that we only kept for about 6 weeks. It was a tough choice between the Miele and Bosch, but we felt the Miele was a better unit. In the month we've had it, the Miele unit has been problem free...something we can't say about the GE or Electrolux it replaced. At first we weren't sure if we'd like the 3rd rack cutlery tray, but after the 1st day of using it we'd never no back to the old type of silverware baskets. I would suggest using the Miele brand rinse aid, as it really makes a difference. It costs about $11 for 550ml bottle, but it would probably last over a year, as we have the unit set to dispense 1ml in each load (the 3ml was the default setting). I was using the Cascade rinse aid that I had left over from the Electrolux, but it gave the Miele unit and the plastic cups a "chemical" smell that I never noticed before. Once I got it out of the system and added the Miele rinse aid, the chemical smell stopped. We're still using the Cascade Action Packs dishwasher detergent, which work just fine (no chemical smell with them), but we've tried a few (demo) tabs of the Miele brand dishwasher detergent. They are expensive ($30 for 60 tabs, $0.50 each) but they have a ridge down the center so you can brake them in half. We tried a few like this (split in half), and they worked just fine. I'm not sure if we'll buy the box of the Miele dishwasher tabs and just break them in half for use (which would give 120 half-tab loads at $0.25 each), or buy the Cascade Complete (48 count for $12, $0.25 each). Also, get a few hard water tests strips to see what your hard water level is. That way you can properly set up the right amount on the dishwasher. I'm not sure if the water softener makes a difference or not, but everything comes out clean. The box of Miele salt was about $10 and you pour the full amount into the water softener container in the bottom. It should last us about a year since our city water isn't that hard. Hope all this helps!...See MoreISO Dishwasher Feedback: Bosch vs KA vs Miele
Comments (10)I had a KA that I liked a lot new, but it got louder in the relatively short time we had it (a year?). Had another older one here when we moved in -- hated it. Replaced with Thermador (Bosch) when we reno'd the kitchen (it had been locked in place by a tile counter). We also added a 2nd DW, so I've had two of them and been very happy with them. I looked at Miele but liked the racking in Thermador and Bosch better for our dishes and I could get two of them for the cost of one Miele. I recently replaced one of the units (9 yrs old?) with a Bosch Benchmark. I'd been waiting for an excuse to replace that one -- we think something got sucked into the pump a long time ago, it didn't drain, but the repairman fiddled with it and got it to drain (warranty call) and it had been running very loudly ever since. I was told it was a user issue and they wouldn't replace the pump and I didn't push it. I just decided I would replace it sooner. And try one with the new third rack. I love how quiet the DW is and I love how well it cleans. Most of the time, it dries as well as the old one which is good or better than any other I've ever owned, but doesn't melt plastics, even on the bottom rack. What I'm still adjusting to is the changes in the racking -- the third rack and the difference in the tines. That happens with every new DW -- they just keep changing the layout of the racks. Sometimes it seems great and mostly I like it, but I still reserve the right to get frustrated when I have to think harder and move stuff around more than I care to. Not sure of the details of the model you are considering, but Bosch offers at least three different baskets plus the third rack. If you are used to carrying the basket with you to unload, you might care more about which basket you get more than someone who uses the third rack for flatware. We are using one half of the silverware basket most of the time for flatware and the third rack for utensils, prep bowls and smaller measuring cups. I probably need to try using only the third rack and see how that impacts loading the lower tack, but I haven't yet. I can't give you any reason not to buy the Bosch -- but do be prepared to be friestrated form time to time while you figure out the differences in how you need to use whatveer you chose....See MoreHelp with wall ovens/dishwasher Bosch or Miele
Comments (5)What type of bread to do you bake? I do a lot of sour dough and some yeast breads. There is Baking Bread in a Miele CSO thread you might want to check out. It is awesome for sour dough but using Chanop's yeast recipe produced lovely rolls with "old" yeast that was not rising well until I popped them into the CSO using his formul. I love my Miele CSO - not only for bread but for steaming veggies/ eggs and warming leftovers as well as any general baking that works in a smaller cavity. I also have the Miele 30" burst of steam that I do not find nearly as versatile. Are you looking at one or 2 ovens? Miele now makes a larger (taller) CSO that you might want to consider. I have the Miele Lumena dishwasher and love it. I have used GE profile/ Kitchenaid/Bosch (older and newer models) and Miele hands down wins. Bosch is close but does not dry as well with the the Miele open air drying feature. They all clean well and Bosch and Miele are both VERY quiet....See Morerhome410
