Question about gmail

My isp, WildBlue Communications (satellite) just changed mail servers to Google, so that my main e-mail comes through gmail. I already had a regular gmail account and had noticed that when I configured it to download in Outlook Express, I could download to only one computer. Previously, my WB mail could be downloaded to both my desktop and my laptop, but since the migration to gmail, the same is true there. Checking "leave messages on server" has no effect.

Does anyone know if there is any way this could be made to work so that it could be downloaded to more than one computer? I do not like webmail, but now I am forced to use it to view my e-mail on both my comps.

Lucky for you, I just had the same problem. I hope my answer works for you, it did me.

Log on to Gmail on the web. Go to "settings" then click on the "Forward & POP/IMAP", then in the POP download section 2, make sure it says When messages are accessed by POP,"keep Gmail's copy in the inbox".

Me again, after posting the above, my wife informed me she was not getting Gmail into her Outlook Express. I found the following at Gmail. I have yet to set it up so not sure it works.

Using POP on multiple clients or mobile devices

If you're accessing your Gmail using POP from multiple clients, Gmail's recent mode makes sure that all messages are made available to each client, rather than only to the first client to access new mail.

Recent mode fetches the last 30 days of mail, regardless of whether it's been sent to another POP client already.

In your POP client, replace 'username@gmail.com' in the Username field your POP client settings with 'recent:username@gmail.com'. Blackberry users will be signed in to recent mode automatically, without adding 'recent:'.

Once you enable recent mode, please be sure to configure your POP client to leave messages on the server according to the instructions below:

In Outlook, on the Advanced tab, check the box next to Leave a copy of messages on the server.

In Outlook Express, on the Advanced tab, check the box next to Leave a copy of messages on server.

In Apple Mail, on the Advanced tab, remove the check next to Remove copy from server after retrieving a message.
In Thunderbird, on the Server Settings tab, check the box next to Leave messages on server.

There appears to be no way with Gmail. If this is for business why don't you use an address set up with your regular internet provider? Then IE has that feature. You could investigate msgtag.com they add something to the message so it immediately reports to you when the email gets opened. In my humble opinion it is one ignorant program, very invasive. One lady sends updates for her web site to me using it but I have never opened her emails since, I use the back door to read her message and modify her site.

ad block does not hide any of those buttons I have it on my pc and see all the buttons and links mentioned in gmail. it really doesn't matter since gmail gives you so much space doubt it fills up and they just give you more every so often. but I have never seen one that did not show those options as shown in the screen shot of select: All None Read etc. Mine is exactly like the screen shot. Only one I bother clearing out is the spam and it also has the link to clear all at once which is what I use.

laticauda(OK - zone 7) I think I read somewhere that to make a room have clean air (not just cleaner air) it takes like 15-20 6-inch potted plants. For one room. Is "Conversation View" turned on? Click the gear icon at the top right. Click settings. Scroll down and see if "Conversation View" is on. If it's on, try turning it off. Well, it works, with glitches. All the e-mails since Feb. 29 when Wild Blue migrated their mail service to Google downloaded to both computers. In addition, e-mails that I had sent also downloaded into my Inbox. Now here's the strangest thing: some of the messages from a regular gmail account that I have also downloaded along with these, even though I did not use the "recent" for that account. Oh, yeah, new e-mails are downloading in duplicate.

So I'm not so sure I'm going to leave things this way. Good luck when you give it a try. I surely wish Google would get their act together.
