registry cleaner

Does this thing really work as well as they say? I dwl. it twice just to try it and they tell me i have 528 problems that need to be fixed. They say they fixed 20 but when I dwl the second time they said they fixed 20 again so it doesn't make sense to me.Have any of you got this registry cleaner ?

I bought Registry Mechanic. When I ran it the first time it found and fixed around 300 problems. On my laptop if fixed over 200. However, I could not notice any difference in the run speed on either machine. I suspect there is a lot of junk left dangling by various software programs that this package fixes. However, there is no indication that any of the "problems" it found were actually needin to be fixed.

By the way, after completing the repairs I ran it again and on each machine it found zero problems. So I guess it "fixed" them the first time.

Are you referring to RegCleaner by Jouni Vuorio? I have recommended it for years having found the application to be safe and user friendly. Plus, it has a back up. I just click "do them all" and sit back and watch.

As for entries returning, I currently have four reocurring entries. They are embedded in the registry and I have found no desire to dig through the screens to find them to manually delete them They are harmless.

Shelley, did you get a Mac or is iTunes now available for a PC? What is limewire like to use? I use Acquisition which I'm quite happy with. They let you know when the new one is available to download plus it is easy to navigate. My house needs cleaning too but I don't know if I'll get it done. Went to emerge last night since my abdominal pain is back. It has been for a couple of months now. Turns out I have an infection of some type some where. So lots of antibiotics and I'm to go back if anything changes. Not good. I'd just like to know where the infection is. Syreeta (Who is in a lot of pain right now.)

Revo is wonderful idea. It will generally remove most orphaned files and registry entries after running the target application's uninstaller. Use it on the advanced mode. When offered to select detected items do so. After completing you can run CCleaner's utility tool as on a rare occasion it will detect something REVO missed. DA

should not make any difference the service pack. Many computers simply could not install sp3 but if you have done all windows updates you pretty much have the biggest part of sp3 from those regular updates. I would try to power down and power up in sequence to see if that helps. power off to everything, computers, modem, router, everything connected. Let sit 5 mins, then power up in this order modem first let it get fully lit up, power up router let it get fully lit up, power up computers let them fully load till all activity has stopped then try it. Do you have a firewall on it? if so it could be something in the firewall settings, but if the power sequence does not work I would just try a quick system restore to the date when it was all working fine that may reset what ever got changed.

Yes a registry cleaner can eliminate a bunch of junk, but will it help to speed things up? No, most likely not at all, at least not that's noticeable. With XP, it's not as important or as helpful as with the 9x versions of Windows. What is your operating system and how much RAM do you have? Can't really give an opinion on whether adding RAM would help without knowing more as to what you have and what types of things you do with it. How much free space is on the hard drive? You should have about 1/3 or more free space for optimal performance in that respect. Also, give the EXACT message that pops up. It could be spyware or it could be a legitimate message. If you're running old programs and it's a Windows 16 subsystem error or something to that effect, adding RAM can make a big difference. Also would help to give a better description than just running like a turtle. Is it bootup time, time to open programs, or what? Did it just happen all of a sudden or did it get gradually worse? Some things seem normal speed and others are a problem? Which? Have you done a diskcheck and defrag lately? That can make a big difference.

Forget about the registry cleaner that will fix 20, it's a scam to get a person to buy it. Free download doesn't mean freeware. RegCleaner by Jouni is fine.
Another simple to use is CCleaner
CCleaner cleans temp files, cookies, has a registry cleaner, startup program manager and a add/remove. Just don't install the yahoo toolbar that comes with it now, uncheck yahoo when installing.
A more powerful registry cleaner is RegSeeker with RegSeeker, leave the backup box checked, because it very easily could find 500 invalid entries and file paths.

Just a quick observation.... The more programs you install and/or un-install the more likely it is that you will NEED a registry cleaner...

Error Nuker, like many programs on the Internet, offers a Free download of its product so you can try it out and see what problems it finds on your system. The catch is, you have to buy the product to actually fix these problems.

Also, beware of clicking suspicious links.

hi..I gotta tell ya "thanks".. Netscape7.2 kept bombing out. I got rid of NS8..I didn't use it anyway. This computer was running so slow, that I could have run faster: and I'm old..I got rid of all the stuff not being used. Ran everything; error guard, clean it up, wash It, kill It. And nothing helped but that CCleaner..So thank you very much..Carol
