Real Downloader

Regrettably I know too little about computers to be able to post answers or advice here-- I have only questions.
Apparently Real Downloader no longer works. It was useful to capture some YouTube and other videos.
Is there another safe and effective program that will do it?

I use a Firefox extension called"Download YouTube Videos as MP4" to download an occasional Youtube and it works fine for me.

I don't download from anywhere else though.

Thanks for the help. I now have workable down loads from YouTube.
But I have never been able to download from the link below. Anyone know how to do that?

If this has just started and on 2 computers it is unlikely to be any error with your computers. Have you checked the file where the downloads get stored to see if they are coming in but the small box notifying you fails to appear? Assuming your downloaded files are in the Documents/Download file.... Right click Start, click Explore in the pop up Click the small plus sign beside Documents (My Documents?) on the left side Now look underneath Documents for Downloads Click on this to highlight and look on the right side to see if the latest downloads are listed.

Found the problem. The downloaders are incompatible with Mozilla 22. They work OK with IE. I hate IE, but maybe this can be viewed as a redeeming feature. Real says they are working to solve the problem caused by with Mozilla.

Well if you had success with Malwarebytes perhaps it is not necessary to run Superantispyware. If you would care to try then as you start the computer keep tapping the F8 button and a screen will appear with start up options. Select safe mode, everything will look totally different to the normal startup because only essential drivers have been allowed to start. My concern was the fact you mentioned AVG was not running properly. That is a good indicator of trouble. On reading the initial post a second time it appears you overcame that issue

I always go to the software company's site first before using a download site. Try the link below, it isn't likely they'll send "stuff" to annoy their users. Steve Here is a link that might be useful: Realplayer.com

I use keepvid and it works great for me. Never tried anything else and I don't use firefox so works for me in IE. Mary

I located that video on pbs.org too. So I searched "dowload pbs video", finding threads like this, but nothing really hopeful. Seems you're not alone.

If you find a solution, post it please. :)

I couldn't get it to work in a "virtual" machine. I keep getting memory access violations. Maybe it would be fine in a real machine but... I'm too lazy... and/or cautious to try.

But if I were to try, I'd probably grab the "last free adware-free" version from here: http://www.videohelp.com/tools/StreamTransport Perhaps I'm just over-cautious though.

Real Downloader works fine for me. Maybe something got changed on your pc like a firewall or browser update.
