Problem with Skype is everytime you use it as far as I know it eds up in the Start up again.

Click Start> Click run, in the run box type MSCONFIG, CLICK ok click the Start up tab, look for skype file and un check it click Apply click ok, reboot the computer, a window will pop up place a check in the box that says DO NOT SHOW THIS MESSAGE AGAIN.

If you want to remove the java automatic update checker.. change the java setting in your control panel is the proper way so you dont get errors when jave tries to find it. But then you have to keep up on java updates by reading alot of tech sites. They put out security fixes sometimes & well as normal program updates. ASPdaemon is for an ipad or some apple product you have. It maybe cease to share would be my guess. daemon usually refers to a server product so it maybe is how your computer & apple device talk to each other.

Most likely if you're getting that message---> Please wait while Windows configures Skype 4.2. ---> you're uninstalling through the add/remove programs in normal mode. Every time that you reboot, the program will begin at start up if configured to and a registry key will run. Try to Boot to safe mode and uninstall the Program if you continue to have problems. Skype probably runs as a service as well as at start up. Booting into safe mode will prevent the program from starting up and doesn't load the registry keys. Once you have done that, click on your C:Drive > Program files > and delete all the Skype folders found. See if that helps. Donna

Maybe you could download a bootdisk and make a bootable floppy then you should have access the C: drive. If it doesnt start to a dos prompt you'll need to access the bios and set it so it looks to boot from floppy drive (FD) before Hard Drive (HD). This guy has a boot floppy exe that you download, then insert a floppy before running it and it automatically formats and makes a 98SE bootfloppy. I havent used this, he was first one that turned up in a search. It's hard to believe it wont let you get to a dos prompt. Have a feeling you've a loose wire or connection inside. Or maybe upset the memory or another card and need to reset it. Here is a link that might be useful: http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software_download.htm

Surely the whole purpose of having Skype is the ease of contacting or being contacted by those in the contact list? If it does not start you might be in the wilderness when friends or family try to call.

If you do want to stop it from starting when you start windows open Skype, click 'Tools' > 'Options' and uncheck 'Start Skype when I start Windows'. I have it set to only let people on my list of contacts contact me so it doesn't bother me that it starts up when I start Windows.
