Trying to change Registered User (Windows 98)

17 years ago

We're trying to figure out how to change the Registered User in Windows 98 before we give away our old computer. I Googled and found the following:

- Run the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE).

- Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion.

- To change the values of the RegisteredOrganization, RegisteredOwner, or ProductId, simply double-click on them.

)

However, when we open CurrentVersion (either by clicking on the folder or clicking on the + sign), the values RegisteredOrganization, RegisteredOwner, or ProductId are not listed anywhere.... actually, NOTHING is shown in the right-hand pane.

Is there any that works?

And is there anything else we need to do to remove our names anywhere else in the system? We deleted all our files and formatted the hard drive.

Thanks,

Jen
