How & where do you store your garden stuff?
Comments (10)I have peg boards and nails in the garage walls for gardening tools and other hardware. There is also a small workshop on the back of the garage which is now garden/lawn storage. One year I went to a garage sale in the neighborhood and bought two small dressers to put in my garage for garden storage. Gloves, small tools, yarn, hose connectors, bags, etc. go in those. The tools I use every day, trowel, and hand weeder, go in the bottom of a pail by the back door. Like gmjan, I have multiples that I don't often use but might. My favorites go in the pail so I don't have to dig through the drawer. I like the idea of a place to hang them so will consider that. We used to move every 6-8 years but have been here 13 years and "stuff" has increased exponentially. Need to do a good sorting and culling....See Moresilly stuff while preggers
Comments (18)Sally, Huh? You're sweet. I didn't think you'd say that! I do like being tall. I think I'd like being short too tho. I weighted 200lbs with both boys. I looked like the Titanic! LOL! sylvia, how's come we never see pictures of the truthfully cool stuff in life? I would laugh until I hurt myself seeing that. Dang, she was determined tho wasn't she? Comments (2)YES, definitely. Felt the same way building a house. Looked at the stakes for the garage thinking, "there's no way two cars can fit in here" but after it was built, there was room for a third car! My pool definitely looked the biggest when it was filling with water and we were standing in the middle of it. (see blog link) The one thing that surprised me after filling was how deep the middle of the pool was. I guess I was used to pools where it was shallow/middling and then a sudden, steeper drop-off to the deepest part. If you've looked at my blog, I expected this spot to be around the bend to the right, east of the spa spillover. Instead, I can't stand with my head above the water past the long bench on the east side (even with the corner of my lanai). I have to swim to reach the bench on the left side of the spa instead of walking up to it. Definitely be around for the shotcrete if possible. If you've read my blog, I wrote about having the guys adjust the width of the steps after seeing that they were narrow and steep. I would have done more except the pool light was right up to the new extension that I had them shoot. If something doesn't look right, SAY SOMETHING RIGHT AWAY, so that they can fix it or at least reassure you that it is fine. My PB didn't like the way the short diagonal wall looked along my lap lane and had them scrape off some - it would've stuck out just a bit (not that I can swim that straight anyway). It just looks weird because the lap lane is not parallel to that diagonal wall and your mind wants it to be. The geometry won't let it. Also we refused to accept the electrician's solution because frankly, he was lazy. He ran the electrical up through the attic and dropped down to switches in the lanai. But, he was going to drop the cable along the outside of the wall and have a big switch box sticking out. Looked crappy. So we ran the conduit from the attic down the inside of the block wall and out a hole, so now the switch is recessed just like any wall switch you have in your house. He wasn't happy, but too bad, we're the ones who have to live with it and we weren't going to have to fix it later after paying him to do it right. Comments (61)"Just wait until you have to pack up all that crap and move it." My SIL just bought a retirement home so they are decluttering their current house as a preparation for selling it--she keeps telling me she can't believe how much STUFF she's got to get rid of. When I go to their house I always admire how it looks nicely organized and without extraneous things all over. However, I also admire her tons of closets and storage space which she says leads to keeping, you guessed it, all that stuff LOL. I've decided I will play a mental game this summer and pretend we have to move; maybe that will be my motivation to get rid of much unnecessary and unused stuff in our house! I use the holidays and shopping for gifts to satisfy any yen I may have to be a retail hunter/gatherer. The past few years I increasingly feel as if I am gorging myself after staying on a careful and healthy diet; by the time January comes I feel so psychically bloated from all the shopping /buying that I need another year to rest up and recover! It's interesting to me to watch my young adult daughter who is setting up her first home. She loveslovesloves Home Goods, Marshalls, Pier 1 etc. And when I go with her I usually find stuff I could easily buy. I have a rule that I can't take anything from those places home the day I see it. That usually short circuits the purchase, I'm rarely motivated enough to fight the traffic and crowds to go back a second time!...See Moresolarpowered
