I am not done decorating, which is very unusual for me.

I tink at this point if I wait any longer none of the pictures will be posted before Christmas...lol.

I decided to post what I have so far for this year and attach a link to last years for all of you that are new to the holiday forum this year.

I am also still playing with different table settings, sorry no close ups yet...lol

Some of the decorations are very similar to 2006 others are new or I added items. My tree has somethwat of a rustic/wild birds/berries kind of theme.

Just a brief report on the Salem house tour. I have been on this one many times and it is always different because Salem is one of New England's greatest treasures in terms of old houses and history. This year's tour was low on Christmas decorations and ideas but high on architectural interest. Re Christmas, the best was the house decorated by a local florist called Fiddleheads--great use of flowers and other natural material. The emphasis this year was on Samuel McIntyre, late 18c architect and woodcarver, and true American genius. There's a wonderful exhibit of his career at the Peabody Essex Musem in Salem right now--ends sometime in Feb. So most of the open houses had some kind of McIntyre connection, including one with the only extant McIntyre fence left in Salem. For anyone interested in landscape, the fences and finials, gates and breathtaking front entrances, either done or inspired by McIntyre, are gorgeous to see. Even if you missed the tour, next summer, take a walk around the McIntyre Historic District and take a look at these. There's a lot to see from the sidewalk. Salem was also the birthplace of many important aspects of early American horticulture. You can see where the gardens used to be--sad. Some gardens exist but I don't know of any that once made Salem famous. I hope I'm wrong.

I have Photobucket too, I had a hard time with it too until some one here on GW gave me some instructions LOL. You just COPY the HTML Code that is under the photo you want to use. Then you PASTE the HTML Code into the Message Box here. When you do a "preview" you will see your message and your photo. Hope that helps.

It's nice to "see" all of you too. :-) Maura, most people around here, including my parents, also leave thier decorations up until New Year's. My MIL sometimes doesn't put hers away until February! So I think you're definately in the majority on that one...I don't think I know anyone else who puts christmas away right after the holiday. :-) I have a "thing" about starting right away on January 1st with the house all clean and tidy and ready for "winter", it's sort of an "out with the old" type of thing for me. I can't feel like the new year has started until the old year has been "put to bed" properly. I actually have the day off on the 26th, so I'll do most of my "undecorating" then, but I'll be working the rest of the week, as will my husband, so I'll spend the evenings gradually getting my cleaning done, and that Saturday finishing up and getting ready to welcome the new year in with friends. I like to wake up on the 1st to my clean, organized house...it just feels like a good way to start the new year for me. I spend time with both my parents and in-laws on New Year's Day, and it just seems "odd" to still have the christmas stuff up and out then. Not to mention I won't have time then to work on *my* house, as we're expected at the other places. I am thankful that I have the day after New Year's off as well...it's nice when these holidays fall over the weekend, as far as work schedules go. For me, I start the christmas season the first week of December, and we're celebrating with friends and family the week *before*, so the week after just doesn't seem necessary for me. That's when I'm putting the old year to bed, and gently waking the new year up. But like I said - I'm the only person I know who does it this way...around here, stores still have thier decorations up that next week, and everyone still turns thier lights on and celebrates, so you're certainly in the majority with your views, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. :-)

Tam - Just beautiful pictures, decor, the works!!! You have an eye for the just the perfect thing here or there. Thank you for sharing,,,love your mantel and kitchen tree. May I ask where the lighted tress on your mantel came from? Thanks. I wish my tree looked half as put together as your does.

Tam - your place is just lovely - I especially love your woodland tree(I have a 5ft one on my back porch) and I love the village in front of the window - the snow scene just travels right out the window - how cool is that. It is giving me an idea of where to place mine next year. I am finding out that it is getting to much for me to do it under the tree like I have done in the past (kness are really complaining this year - lol ). Thank you so very much for a tour of your house.....

Tam! Wow, great decorations. Love your Woodland tree and your kichen tree, your home looks so festive. You are really great at accessorizing your tablescapes too. I know your boys must be really proud of their mom. I am glad we don't have all the snow you all have though LOL Best wishes to you and your family for this Christmas season!

Your decorations are beautiful. I'd sure like to know how long it took you to do everything. It looks like a labor of love.

Speaking of love, I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your feather tree. I will certainly be on the look out for one of those. I think I would leave it out all year.

Christmas is simply my favorite time of year. When I was a kid, between the age of 9 til 13, Christmas at our house was mostly hectic, my parents owned a restaurant and usually worked during the holidays. I remember many years when it was 'lights on tree on - exchange gifts quickly - and back to work they went'...lol and at 14 I left home so for a long time after that Christmas decorations was just not something I could afford.
Maybe that is what caused the 'damage' that causes me to now go overboard during Christmas...LOL

luvs - the large santa picture I bought this year and I really love it, it just sets the mood and makes ya feel like you're sitting in santa's diningroom...:)

piper - the lighted trees (four on each side) on the mantel came from a couple of different places. The large ones I bought during the after Christmas sale at Kirklands last year. The three smaller ones I bought last month at 'The Christmastree Shop'.

danoh - the tree in the bathroom is from a local Christmas store I got it during their after Christmas sale last year. The feather tree is also from last years after Christmas sale at Target.

Lynne - I have tried the village in many different places and this year I left the 'Ocean and seashore' portion packed away because it would have been too much. The back portion is sitting inside the baywindow the front portion is on top of a couple plastic storage totes that I covered with the snow blanket. I saw a lady on another board arrange her village in shelves flanking her fireplace and on the mantel... it looks beautiful but I don't have the furniture to make that work...:(

Grimmy - In years past I would be all done the week after Thanksgiving. This year things are just really crazy and I am still not completly done and probably won't be until Christmas eve. But even when I have everything up in a week I 'mess' with it and make changes all the way up to Christmas.

Hi Tam,
Sorry I am late...lots of running around going on here, and I just found out I am hosting Christmas (up to 17 adults and 7 children 6 and under!) due to the new baby. son and dil finally realized they can't do it with a new baby and 3 others 6 and under to take care of...So I am in panic mode!

Your house looks so lovely and inviting! You have done a wonderful job, all the little touches are perfect!
I have the tree in the den to finish. I just got that one up yesterday.

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!

I can imagine why you are panicking..lol. I am also in panick mode, I also just found out I'll be hosting 12 adults and 3 children under 7 not quite as many as you'll be having. But ya know what...no matter how much I want everything to be just right...it's being together that truly matters...:)

I was able to put a couple addtional decorations up, a garland over the mirror in my Boys bathroom which has a muted beachside theme, and a little 3 foot tree in the masterbedroom.

Tam, I love the candles on your MB tree, and the scenery outside is so pretty too! Those white decorations are beautiful and make such a nice arrangement with the tree.

Perfect decoration for the boys bathroom, goes with the theme yet looks Christmasy too.

Good luck with your dinner, I am sure your family will think your decorations are all gorgeous, but you are right, being together is the most important thing.

Tam, More beautiful decorations. I love the white and gold in your master bedroom and the decorations in the boys' bath is very nice and unusual. You've done a wonderful job decorating your home.

And Tam & Kathleen, Both of you will have large gatherings for Christmas dinner and I'm sure you both will do a wonderful job.

Ahhhhh it is ALL lovely, but you brought a tear to my eye with the last pictures....that little tree with the gold and white(and the beautiful outdoor scenery) is absolutely perfect!! Maybe someday I will get my act together......
I hope Karen includes that picture in the inspirations gallery. Thank you for sharing!!

Just beautiful! I enjoyed the tour immensely. It really shows how much you love this time of year. And the snowy backdrop makes it all so picture perfect. Thanks for sharing!

I immediately fell in love with the little tree surrounded by the white and gold Santa, rocking horse, etc. That is gorgeous. You're right Jaybird, its heading for the inspiration album!

There are so many lovely photos on different threads, and I forget WHO I asked permission from and who I forgot to. Gosh, if you see a photo in the album and object to it being there...just quietly email me and I'll remove it.
I am probably behind in adding pix this week, much less asking for "oks". But the album will be kept there and not removed after Xmas.
