Anybody familiar with Cyberlink Power Director v6?

I am having a problem with my 'Capture' from a Canon Elura DV camcorder into Cyberlink Power Director.

(I'm working with 45 minutes of video that I will then put on a DVD)

When I start capture, my capture on the screen and the video on the DV tape starts to....I guess, pixelate.

If I stop capture and continue playback on camcorder,the video is fine.

If I rewind to where point of capture originally began, the tape is ruined due to the video jerkiness or pixelating.

I had this happen one other time and ended up throwing out the dv tape after the capture ruined it.

My next attempt was successful and now, I'm back to this problem again.

I tried a 'test capture' to Windows Movie Maker and it was fine, which tells me the problem is with this program-but what?

I tried capturing with 'non-real time' checked and unchecked. Should I speed up, or slow down, capture?

Is there anything else I could check?

Forgive me, but I am quite a novice when it comes to video editing and so I hope you understand my question.

I have posted to Cyberlink forums and submitted a question form through their site, but so far, no responses.

Hope there are some video experts here.

Digging into my bookmarks I found an excellent "helper" site with loads of reading for you!

I quote: "Common myths and misconceptions about DV

2. You do not "capture" DV. Yes, you heard me, you DO NOT capture DV. You TRANSFER the files. In the world of video, the term "capture" refers to the re-acquisition of motion images in a format that is different from the analog source format. With DV, re-acquisition does not occur. The information is merely transfer from point A to point B, using special wires and software. You do not "capture" from a DV camera any more than you "capture" from a floppy disk. The person that first called this process "capturing" should be flogged for all the confusion this misused word has caused."

Sorry that I cannot help any further - but this snippet might save you from spoiling any more of your recording. Hopefully somebody who really knows the answer will be along soon.

Be that as it may, video editing programs call it 'capture' so...

I checked out all your links. Very interesting.
I, of course, googled before I posted and like you found a lot information. Nothing to solve my problem though.

I cannot troubleshoot this myself anymore without ruining tape as I go along, so I am hoping to get someone to put this video safely onto a dvd, and then I can maybe figure this out after.

Here is a close up of the leaf. I live in zone 7b-8a on the NC/SC line so it has to be a tree that can live in this region. I planted it from seeds I got from someone else 4 years ago, it has been growing in a half 55 gal barrel for the last 3 years, as you can see it has large teethed leaves, smooth on bottom but slightly fuzzy? on top, the top is not smoot. Nor glossy but sort of matt.

The backs of handmade rugs can be quite sharp. Notice some of the wavy red lines on the back. Machine-made rugs will likely have much straighter lines. I once asked my cousin, who was stationed in Saudi Arabia and had bought some beautiful rugs while there, if a hand-made rug I was buying here was worth the asking price. I loved the rug. He replied that buying a rug was an emotional experience and only I could know. He was right. That was 25 years ago, and I still have a twinge of pleasure every time I look at the rug. Your koi rug is lovely.

If you want a fairly stark white that has a hint of warmth, Oxford White is my trim color, I quite like it Because you're not so fond of the pinky tone of your cabs, you might want to blend with them (minimizing them) and contrast with the blues (maximizing them) instead of the other way around. Looking at my palette, something like Classic Color White Winged Dove 1457 might be a nice place to start. It is a fairly cool white, which I think you want, but I think it has the faintest taupe/pink undertone. In fact BM already have a color palette with dull blues already matched to 1457. If you find you have to get away from whites, another great light neutral could be something like BM Edgecomb Grey. This is a very light tan and looks great in my bedroom against a dull grey-navy. It has the faintest hint of pink/purple undertone so might coordinate really well with your cabinets and will contrast and bring out the bluish tone of your floors. Edgecomb: You could also go the other way and do a very light blue-green grey, something like BM moonshine 2140-60. This would look very pretty with your cabs but you'd have to see if it emphasized the pinky or just looked pretty with it.

Could you just "capture" using Windows Movie Maker (WMM), then open the file in the software you prefer to use?

I have done that many times.

I like using WMM - but will occasionally use a different software to make a DVD. I don't have any trouble opening a file that I have used WMM to capture - and vice/versa. I can edit files that I have imported using different software.

Good thought iowagirl2006, except at this point I don't have any other software where I could burn the file.

I'm really hoping I can figure out the problem with this software so I can use it.
Something is causing the 'capture' to damage the tape and that is so weird.
