also doing it on chrome

I have been getting a popup down in the lower right corner to update FF. I didn't react cause I was going to inquire about a new update as I haven't heard anything on here about one.
My FF is 3.6.14. Is that the latest?
Also, each time I open FF, win7 asks if I want to make changes to this computer and I think it wants to update.
I ran malwarebytes, SuperAntispyware and a virus scan yesterday and all was well.

How do you know if the popup update reminders are legitimate or not? I always avoid them BUT programs I haven't used before are reminding me of updates??? Such as Adobe flash, etc.

Jane, I do not have Vista but help a few who do. From reports I have read elsewhere it would certainly appear that the MS firewall is a capable program. Any negative comments seem to come from the anti MS crowd rather than with substantial info to support any doubts on the firewall. As I noted I was asking out of curiosity in case perhaps you had read anything to suggest the MS firewall was not up to par. Raven, thank you. I sent all of this post to my tech and hope he reads it. I'm scared as I still have XP, and although I love IE because it is what I've always used, I am now using Firefox. I did go in and change the settings so it can't automatically upgrade. When I went to try to find out what "version" of Firefox my tech had installed, it looked like it was trying to update something. I got out of that fast. LOL My tech is looking around to get me a new computer as mine will soon be 10 years old. I am going to hate giving up my XP, but I will have no choice.

Mozilla Firefox - a dream come true. No pop ups, no ads, none of the annoying videos that used to play here AND, no annoying ads on my Yahoo browser either. And, and, and....so many extensions that can be added that are too numerous and too cool to list. Love my colorful tabs! And just added a coupon code alert to tell me if the site I'm shopping has a code available. Woo Hoo! fwiw, I've never had a problem with pictures not showing.

It has nothing to do with those of us that are using the Internet Elephant (by choice in my case) as you call it nor does it have anything to do with garden web or the antivirus or spybot or whatever everyone is using. I have firefox and other browsers. They are all doing the same thing. Cnet is reporting that AGV is experiencing a problem and it is not just at Garden Web. a quote from them........."It is not infected. This is a problem with AVG and it is happening on other sites as well. AVG is notorious for false positives"

the ones in this scam are appearing as if they are updates for specific add-ons which if you look at your add on list you find you do not have those.

It is not an update for firefox itself.
I always use the firefox update button to be sure, in the firefox options.
