Can I set up Thunderbird to only retrieve some of my Gmail

I don't use Thunderbird for very much. I read and send all my email through Gmail. But I got Thunderbird when I was getting rid of an old AOL account - so I could save some of those emails.

Now I would like to save some of my emails to my PC (on Thunderbird) - but only some of them. I want to save my work emails - and a few personal ones (which I have applied a label to). Is there a way to have Thunderbird only retrieve certain labels? e.g., say the labels of professional recommendations, school, etc. I am on several listservs and get so many emails that I don't want in Thunderbird - but haven't deleted yet.

I did topic searches in Thunderbird and Gmail but can't seem to find out if this is doable.

Don't have any experience with GMail so I ask, Do these targeted e-mails come from specific email addresses? Does GMail provide a user the ability to automatically forward emails from specific addresses?

My thought if GMail can do both the above, create a new email account and tag it to Thunderbird. Then configure the specific GMail addresses to automatically be forwarded to the new account. When you open TB only the forwarded e-mails would appear.

Hi aloefreak1, I will describe to you what I have done with mine. I am in Zone 7b. Your a lot warmer. I have never used paper towels to germinate my seeds so I cannot comment too much about this. I fill pots (6") with a free draining mix similar to what I use for adult Adeniums, but I add some coconut coir for more moisture retention. Once filled to about 1/2" from brim, I place seeds (I soak for 2-3hrs. If purchased. Would not if fresh) on top of mix and press in slightly. I then top dress with a 1/8" thin coat of grit (granite or forestry grit) and water in sparingly. I place in a propagator with a lid and on a heat mat which keeps it at 80-85F. I have mine in a south facing sunroom. Have never used artificial light, but may be necessary if you have no place to give good light. Watch to make sure that you open the lid occasionally to let in air. I only mist the grit if it looks to be drying out, but usually do not have to with the humidity from inside. When I see 50 - 60% heaving through the grit ( soil if not using ) I remove them from the propagator. Keep in a warm place with good light and I do not use the heat mat. I have even started them before on top of a second fridge that we have with no heat mat. The seedlings will need to be kept evenly moist. Good light, but not full summer sun until they have 4 or 5 true leaves. I may have missed something and this is what I do. I am sure that we all have different methods. IMAP works such that what you do in the client is reflected to the server, and vice versa. That's the point of it vs. POP3. Any messages you want to retain on the GMail server, you can't delete them from the (IMAP) GMail account tree in Thunderbird. I *never* keep long-term copies of mail on a server. It's *my* mail, I want it archived to *my* computer. IMO there's too much risk of a hacker getting access by brute-force or a server-side security flaw. My computer is more secure, less likely to be hacked, and I can back up the data. I have messages in Thunderbird that date 10 years back. And archived data MUCH older from Outlook Express.

Showroom mode, yes. All F&P appliances (well, washers, DishDrawers, & the topload dryers) have Showroom or Demo mode. Only way to cancel it is disconnect the power for 15 seconds or so, which is a safety consideration ... customers examining them in a store usually don't have access to the power source for switching the machine back to normal operation. DishDrawer showroom mode is intended for the machine to be manually filled with water (there's usually no plumbing connections on a store display) to demo for customers the operational sound and such. It runs a few mins spray and does not drain. When left idle for a few mins, the badge lights begin flashing to attract attention. Prefinished models flash the LCD backlight and cycle the display through the various icons. Those clever engineers at F&P programmed several musical tunes into demo mode on the DDs and washers, just for fun. Locking drawers ... press/hold the Lock button for one beep enables KeyLock, which prevents the buttons from working until Lock is released. Keep holding it for an additional beep (different pitch) enables ChildLock, which locks the lid down so the drawer can't be opened. There's also a ClosedDrawer option that seals the lid every time the drawer is closed, requires turning on the Power to open it. This is different from ChildLock in that simply pressing Power unlocks it. The lid automatically closes again 30 seconds after the drawer is closed.

What's this, cynic - you brought tinder ... but no matches/(lighter?)? Yesterday, I visited the snowmobile-accident-confined landlord in the hospital, then went to United Way to work on this year's list of charities that my tax-free-capitaI-gain-stock-when-sold-to-support-a-charity is to assist. Then came to this city library till I'd planned to visit my son ... ... visiting the bathroom on arrival and, after my two-hour limit on the city's computer ... ... again when I stood to leave. On becoming aware that my bag was no longer with me ...pretty sure I didn't pick up my bag n the bathroom at the time of the second visit. Returning today ... no report of a bag turned in. Didn't take it in to son's place, or to a store or two I visited. Did someone pinch it out of the car? Whatever ... the stuff in it is no longer available. Guess I'll have to start out my accumulate my (bag-carried) stash of survival stuff all over again. Wait a minute - my bank book was in there, too! (Rarely-used credit card ... in wallet in my pocket). Oh, well!!!! ole joyful ... most of the time.

I save a lot of emails from thunderbird. I just set up some different folders on my pc and then save the emails to those folders. I then delete the email from thunderbird.

Thunderbird has little or no help available on anything... not even a telephone.

The targeted emails come from various sources - so I can't just filter that way. On my neighborhood listservs, I may save emails in folders such as professional recommendations, things to do, etc. Then there are work emails. And others. Within gmail, I label them - and archive them. Not sure if this means they are now in folders with those label names?

I would like to be able to save some of these folders to PC. I had thought Thunderbird was the way to do it. I have several thousand emails in my gmail account (due to listservs). I don't necessarily want to erase them or sort through them now - but I don't want to import those into Thunderbird or save them to PC.

If I imported everything into Thunderbird, it doesn't seem to import them in the groupings (labels/folders) I have set up in gmail. It would be hugely inefficient to import a few thousand emails, just to save perhaps a hundred or so - and have to delete everything else.

Paulsm - I don't want to bring all those emails into Thunderbird to begin with. I do see that from within Thunderbird, I have the option to save to PC. But I don't want to have to resort those emails in Thunderbird after I have already sorted them in Gmail.

Damcoy - I was thinking something along the lines of what you suggested - but it's pretty cumbersome. The emails don't come from specific addresses. I could go to my labels - select all from within that folder/label - and then gmail allows me to move it - but only to another label - or IMAP (sent/trash or drafts). So none of those work. I did think about selecting all those emails (but I think I have to do it individually - which is a pain) - creating a new email address I could forward them to - and then link the Thunderbird to just import from that newly created email address. I'm thinking there has to be a better way.

Maybe there's a way to do this without using Thunderbird at all. I want to be able to save certain emails to a folder on my PC. Anyway to do this?
