did it just suddenly happen? if so you could just do a system restore to the date before it happened and that would likely reset her settings.

Or you can see if her resolution for her monitor needs changing, go to a clear spot on desktop, right click, properties, go to tab for monitor settings and try changing the resolution.

I did both of those suggestions but no change.

Check the device manager for errors.

Start>Run in the run box type this (Devmgmt.msc) and click OK once you do that you will be in the Device Manger those are all the devices on the computer, including the Display driver, in fact look at that one(Display driver), see if an error is there indicated by a yellow looking exclamation mark, the exclamation mark is actually black on a yellow background This would indicate a driver problem if one shows.

Or try right clicking on the desktop, click Properties, click Settings and see if something has changed that to cause the problem.

I already checked those settings and they were ok.

That's why we want to check the driver in device manager, if you find it you can right click it and see what options are there.

I checked the device manager and there weren't any exclamation points on anything.

Do any of those buttons (My monitor has buttons, my previous one had some wheels. My buttons pull up a menu with position stuff, I haven't looked at all the sub-menus.) around the edges of the monitor have anything to do with the size of the window? Just curious?

I agree with albert_135. I recently adjusted my monitor using the buttons and then had to resize all of my windows by using the mouse to pull a corner out on a minimized screen to the 'perfect' size, then closing the window using File and Exit.

I find that the buttons on my monitor often get hit by accident especially if I am dusting my desk or moving things around and sometimes that bumping a button can mess something up so check the buttons on the front of the monitor and there should be an auto set one try that one and see if it does not reset back to normal.

She said she never touches those buttons but I will see if that is the problem.

see that is the thing I don't either but several times now when I came to my monitor and it was messed up it was because I or someone (my cleaning lady) had accidentally bumped them and never even realized it, I did it one night when reaching for the off button on the monitor my finger just had a mind of it's own and hit the one next to power LOL Thankfully mine does have the auto set button. Because my kitty used to love to lay on my keyboard and bat at my monitor screen and he was notorious for hitting the wrong thing.

My cat use to sit on the old monitor an chase the cursor.

WhatI do is click on Page Setup and select a 11 x 14 size paper and then click Print

Maximize IE windows

I finally got back to my neighbors this morning and didn't have very much luck. If it was every page that opened wide it might be easier to figure out. But it is pages she usually opens and until the last month has been fine. I checked everything that has been mentioned and they all seem ok.
I had even sent her a picture the size I normally send to here and that part of the email she had to scroll to see the whole picture. She didn't have this problem before.
I checked her AVG for any sign of virus's and trojans and everything came up clean.
She is 80 years old so she gets upset when things change and I can understand that!!
I appreciate everyones help.

Judy - just passing through here - I have found that if someone posts a wide pic in a GW forum, all of the postings become as wide as the pic, necessitating the scrolling back and forth to read. Just a thought.

Similarly to wantoretire_did's observation: a long URL may make the pages too wide here.

Also note that on some sites (This is really groping at the esoteric.), with Firefox and with >view>zoom>zoom text size only, some pages on some sites will be too wide.

Sorry......my bad....I found the info I needed. Did a search on here and found a posting on Mar 22, 09 "RE: pages opening too wide" and found the solution from albert 135, the last posting on that page. I unchecked the "zoom text size only" and everything jumped into place.

I wasted a lot of time looking for the solsolution for this situation, should have done the search firfirsting....

Anyway, got 'er working right!!
