I know how some of us love to see the bargains, so here goes...

the plates 38 ea, the mitten bowl, 50. everything else was less than 4.00.

The little ceramic houses were 25 cents. I think I will do a village table setting next year..

the Hallmark ornaments, in the little boxes, 3 and change. Really, I got a ton of stuff for a little bit of money! A candle warmer..1 dollar !

Snowman dish 25 cents..the 15 pc lighted village 3.74..

Oh Kathleen! I love these plates!!!! Sales start on January 3rd in Belgium... Hope to find some Christmas decorations for next year ;-)

They still had berries at the Irving location as of yesterday (March 6th) when I went back to pick up some more hyacinth on clearance. I said what heck and picked up 4 blueberries. I had a ton of peat left over from repotting anyways, and figured if I end up killing them I only lost about 8 bucks, haha.

OK. At this point, throwing numbers around isn't that helpful. Because the only ones that matter are the ones Fishies gets from her local contractor. I just wanted to respond to this: In this situation, you're dealing with a contractor who works on expensive projects for people who have the resources to do them. You aren't those people. There is something called zip code pricing. Contractors charge more in wealthier ares. To put it bluntly, the rich vastly overpay. I know this for an absolute fact, being able to compare specific projects with specific materials and standards of workmanship for situations I am personally familiar with. There are several reasons. First, the rich like to brag. At parties in one town near me, wealthy people have been heard to brag about having Siemans electrical panels and seen to roll their eyes at 200 amp service. Not all these houses are that large--land costs are high, so small houses can be expensive--and clearly much of this work is unnecessary when you actually see the houses and appliances. It's a boasting point that adds to cost, and the rich have a tendency to choose more expensive solutions not because they need them, but because they always deserve "the best." Second, the rich don't like people with accents. In my renos I always found the best workmanship and best prices by selecting immigrant contractors. Around here, the rich don't mind Latino workers but they expect the GC to be well-spoken, well-dressed and American-born. Third, the rich like paperwork and bureaucracy. They expect their phone calls to be picked up promptly by an "office girl" and want a "team" working on their project. One of the most expensive builders near me has tons of complaints on Angie's list and charge very high prices. Those prices go to support many layers of management, but not necessarily to a customer's benefit--it's more about their own internal red tape. But their prices make them a name builder and so people covet their signs for their lawns. Again, not all rich people are like this of course. But this is a real market, and one that certain "prestige" builders specialize in. Which is why the rest of us know to avoid those companies.

First of all, thanks to everyone for your kind words and encouragement. I was worried if there would be people out there that would appreciate my style and being on a limited budget, my selections. When I first started lurking on this site, I was a rustic kitchen snob! I didn't appreciate white kitchens as I live in the woods and didn't particularly like painted wood. Then I started really looking at all the different kitchens and everyone's designs and ideas and have come to appreciate every kitchen: white, natural, stained, whatever. There are so many ideas and styles. I have converted! Now I scroll through them all! Thanks for all the eye candy and the wonderful ideas. I have to admit that I stole some of them! This site is a wealth of info and others go out of their way to help us "design challenged" folks. Thanks for that! nc cowgirl: we bought the slate at a stone auction in Cleveland and got a great deal on it. Keep your eye out for home improvment auctions, they are the greatest! cat mom: I told DH that you said that the slate looks "fun" and he just grunted, lol. He had just gotten done cutting the edge tiles and it was 98 degrees here (no air conditioning). Due to the fact that these are natural tiles, they are very uneven, so grout lines have to be readjusted, tiles leveled and of course I have to put my 2 cents in as to what color goes where or letting him know that one tile appears higher than the other (toe jammer). He is glad to be done laying them, to say the least. Yesterday, he said to me, "isn't there somewhere else that you need to be?" haha I will post again with the finish since now I know how to do it and will show the before and after shots! OOps, my 4 year old got to the submit button!! Anyway....I have been going crazy with the bargain shopping this fall. Its been so warm here (North Jersey), I just want to keep planting. Plus, I am taking a year off before my daughter starts Kindergarten...so lots of time to plant, plant, plant. We have a very young garden, and the idea of getting things in the ground even 6 months earlier than Spring '16 is very enticing....and at 75% off!! woohoo. My bargain shopping started when the bulbs went on sale at Home Depot (50% off), planted 340 bulbs in the ground and in containers. Cannot wait to see the show in spring. HD also had all roses at 50% off, so I got 2 pink knock-outs. Just before Thanksgiving, I dropped by Fairfield Garden Center and saw all perennials on sale for 75% off. Hidden in the back, of course, ready to be mulched over. So far I have gotten: 4 x Incrediball Hydrangeas ($8/each), 3 x Sunny knockouts ($8/each), 4 x Bartzella Itoh peonies ($14/each), 4 X Nelly Moser Clematis ($9/each) and 2 x iceberg climbing roses (under $10/each). If anyone lives in the area, There are still lots of plants like the ones i mentioned, and the nursery guy there is super helpful. I can't guarantee that I won't be back for more, though!!!

Kathleen, how fun to see all your goodies. Love the snowman items and the cute little mitten bowls.

I felt so bad today that I ask DS NOT to bring our little GD over. You know I am sick when that happens. I've stayed in my robe all day and just lounged around the house, taking medicine and napping. Not even a FREE sale could have gotten me out there! LOL We caught this from her, and I am so concerned that she not catch it again, but they have plans for tomorrow night and need me to babysit--so we will see.

Anyway, It brightened my day to see all your pretties.

All my stuff is packed away now, kind of sad I won't see any of it for another YEAR. I was going to leave the house decorated till mid Jan. but changed my mind as my mood was so rotten and I needed to stay busy.

Judith, I loved your beautiful PINK tree. Wow, that was so gorgeous. You've got some incredible ornaments.

Kathleen, I think a winter table with the aqua would be beautiful. Some of those icy branches would be beautiful. Oh no, you've gotten me into trouble cause I'll have to go shopping. LOL I don't have a thing to match the aqua chargers except salad plates.

Luvs, I'm so sorry you've been so under the weather. That stuff is NOT fun! Take care of yourself. I hope you feel well enough to enjoy your little gdau tonight.

And Karen, we've been missing you around here. Sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well and hope you feel better very soon.

Sorry to hear you're unwell, Luvs-- may it pass quickly!

Loved seeing the on-sale Christmas goodies. I picked up a couple of things at Michaels that way-- a red glittery bird with some peacock feathers (perfect for my livingroom) and some other random ornaments.

It's nice to have and NICER when it's 50-75% off! Tomorrow when all the folks in my town will be sitting in front of the TV and watching football, I will be shopping in the blissful emptiness of the mall and getting all the sales. :)

Kathleen - you got some really good buys there - love the dishes. I will be hitting both Walgreens and Rite-aid (Eckerds) today. It is my first time to be able to get out since Christmas. Had a house full of company so that was OK.......

kathleen...I love all of your bargains. What great finds. I especially love your snowman dishes. I managed to get together a couple of different Christmas table settings but everything was so hectic this year plus I've been sick the last 4 days and can't seem to get rid of this darn flu that I didn't get to take any pictures...:(
BTW...Great minds do think alike...LOL...I am currently planning my winter table setting in white silver and crystal with touches of black. I picked up a couple of things in the after Xmas sales for that setting and next weekend all Christmas decorations will go down to make room for all my snowman/winter stuff...:)

Jenn, thanks for the good wishes. I feel like I just lost five days. Such a miserable cold--feeling a little better today so it should be gone soon.

Karen, I'm glad to know that you don't think my little GD will recatch her cold from us. I'm going to go get some Lysol and spray the whole house before she comes--but I was concerned because we are both still coughing and blowing our noses allot. Hope you feel good again soon too.
