Hello Lisa, why are you trying to grow a banana? Does it conjure up tropical images? There is one growing next door that is hated by the other next door because it sends runners under the fence. It even has bananas but is not a thing of beauty. Micro clime thing. North slope, no frost. No banana plantation was ever on the flat. Does that help? I'd like to grow Lily of the valley, tulips, daffodils and a few other things but i know they would be a complete waste of time so i do not bother Somewhat on topic. I love Drosera capensis but it is not growing as well as it should for something that is supposed to send seed everywhere. Comment re. Maybee - I'm not certain if you are looking for the instructions on how to make the board (size of nail, spacing, etc.) or how to do the knitting with only one line of pegs. Here are the instructions on how to actually wrap the yarn and do the 'knitting' for a single line of pegs: Instructions for the Single Stitch for Flat Knitting Begin by wrapping all the pegs in a clock-wise direction, starting on the left side of the loom and moving to right. At the end of the first row, you wrap the last peg twice in a clock-wise direction, so that it will have two loops on it, then change directions and wrap the next peg in a counter clock- wise direction. Continue wrapping the pegs in a counter clock-wise direction until you reach the left side of the loom. Next, pull the bottom loop over the top loop of each peg, starting with the last peg that you wrapped to lock the loose end of the yarn in place. For the second row, wrap all of the pegs in a clock-wise direction, moving from the left side of the loom, toward the right, the same as with the first row. Lift the bottom loop over the top loop of each peg. You are now on the far right peg. I remember it very well. It happened around Easter that year. I was 12. I believe it was the first big story covered by live television. I followed it via our daily newspaper as we got our first tv in 1951. People went down all hours of the day & night to stores selling tv's to follow the story in their store windows. Radio covered it quite heavily also. I think the odd part of the story, if I recall correctly, was that Kathy's father worked for a Southern CA utility company & he had testified in Sacramento earlier about the danger of uncapped wells such as his daughter not much later died in. Nobody remembers for sure exactly the site of the well & her death---I think it's believed it's where a high school football field currently is. So much of So. CA has changed since 1949.

Where I live its the winter storm of 95-96 and you just mention it and people remember or they heard of it. It was bad, stopped everything, there on the radio asking does anyone have skidoes to take people to their appointments dialysis to the hospitals, people ran out of all kinds of items, it was desperate times and no power and it went on for 6 days and my suite in bottom of parents was an icebox, I had broken my wrist in two places and was in agony but the pain pills looped me so only took once and that was it for those. Alot died from heart attacks from shoveling snow. ONE young lady radio announcer walked to work from her place and it was a long walk in deep, deep snow but she did it. The hospitals were working around the clock and they were stuck there unless ones that could relieve lived within walking distance and could make it. They were desperate for baby formulas, diapers, milk, bread and one store took huge advantage and hiked the prices and wow, it went into war to that owner doing that in desperate times and people banned that store for long time afterwards. You help people out not stab them in the back. Also alot died due they use things like bbq but didn't have it in open areas trying to give heat to their family. We had one day of power and heat and that was Christmas day and wow, we cooked and so we had turkey to eat after that and it helped lots. But our golden retriever we didn't have dog food to give to him as my dad always waited until last second and couldn't get it for him. He ate things he never touched and New Years my dad found him in rough shape and thankful we had our driveway plowed and roads plowed and dad took him to vets and found so much inside him when they pumped out his stomach. I got blamed as always over that. The power going out and my broken wrist was hardest on me and not able to help my dad and he shouldn't have been shoveling,etc. but I couldn't do it. And sitting in an icebox the whole time except for christmas day we got it back. kathy
