Victorian Porch Tour...

I didn't know there was a Holiday Forum . I thought you might like to see what we do here in our town. This has been going on for 15 yrs. It lasts 5 days. I took photos of each setting. There are 100 figures . It encompasses 2 streets in our Historic District. I will post part II separately. Hope you enjoy. Caroline

OMG - that is just beautiful - what an interesting thing for a town to do - I just love it - especially the 3 little angels - how precious. I love the idea of having all the figurines in a base of snow - that is so cool - thank you so much for sharing those pictures - off to do the second tour.....

What great news for you southerners! Mark and I saw a few minutes of the weather channel last night and noticed your area was supposed to get rain. We saw a report on Lake Lenier (sp?), too. Scary, huh? I hope it gets replenished soon. We are very dry and the Santa Ana winds are blowing again. I am NOT going down the hill into them, I don't care how good the sales are at Macy's. : ) I had to go down the Cajon Pass (the worst wind tunnel for these conditions) on Wed. morning and it was already blowing hard. I did what I had to do and got home, asap. Fire departments in all locations have been put on alert and have extra help, if needed. Let's hope they don't. Way late is always good since I am still here !! THANK YOU ....you are ALL very sweet. We did the porches today and the rain has held off for now. We will see. It is supposed to be beautiful for Friday and Saturday nights which involove walking tours and live music every hour. So XXXXX your fingers and I will try and get great pics. c

As a southerner I've been through Opelika many times and have friends that are from there. Your love of it is understandable. It is a wonderful town, beautiful old homes and if I had to relocate it would be at the top of my list.

prill...well the "town" owns the figures but that is the extent of it as far as their participation in the decorating of the porches and maintenance of the figures etc. That is all volunteers and it is a big job. The Friday night downtown Celebration in old town is put on jointly but the town and the merchants. The shops are open and their is music and the folks in the area that choose to walk in Victorian costumes add a lot to the atmosphere. Some own their own outfits and have worn the same ones all the years we have lived here..since 2002. There are open air hay ride type wagons paid for by the town and they drive up and down the 2 streets that have the decorated porches and some trollies too...that is all on the Friday night. Very festive. I am glad you like our home...we are happy to have found it and are glad to live here. Our away time is a Shambhala retreat through the start of the New Year. Seven days of peace and meditation and study and walks in the woods of north AL. This is our first one of this type so we are excited to learn something new. gr8day I hope you can come sometime...let me know. c

My son's town does a house deco contest...no blow up figures..it is beautiful to look at all the houses and Nativity scenes, etc...
