Make Quick Launch icons appear in Task Bar

Using WIN XP Pro, Dell Computer: Cannot cause Quick Launch icons to appear in task bar when computer is powered-up each day; must check the Quick Launch option in Toolbar Properties each morning - then it's good until computer is turned off. Any approach to make it come up automatically? Thanks in advance, Sheld

After it comes up do you have 'lock the taskbar' checked? If you do I don't know a solution, but maybe someone will. If it's not locked get it like you want it and then lock it.

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

In the right-pane,
Userinit should read C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,
If it has been set to wsupdater.exe, and not userinit.exe,
You'll have to right click Userinit and modify and change to C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe,
Don't forget the comma at the end.

Windows Word in Task Bar?

Owner End Process with the task manager only "Ends Process" during that sesssion. Upon rebooting all your processes are back ... even "End Process" ed ones. Microsoft Word does not belong in my Task Bar. It uses 55% of CPU upon start up. No wonder we were gettin' hot. How do I get it out of my Task Bar? and How did it get in there? Owner 'End Process' es are fairly benign and most gamers turn them of except the task bar itself and IE while playing, its even on the directions of most PC games...for enhancesd performance... etc. The entire word program is running!!...55% of a 3.2GHz CPU (certainly isn't the fastest) at startup is going to word without me turning it on, that is ridiculous! marf

lotodig- Just so you're more confident, I've re-booted my computer many times over the years using the technique I've described. Several times, for example, my cursor has frozen so I couldn't navigate to do anything, such as re-boot normally. I didn't always know why some problem was happening, but I did know that the power button re-boot would not make anything worse. Usually the only time you can have a problem is if you decide to do a re-boot/re-start of any kind in the middle of some major activity where you are making changes to the computer, such as installing updates or doing a defragmentation. However, in the other 99.9% of cases, all you're doing is cleaning out the RAM of some unexplained little problem and starting fresh.

the fake antivirus infections do indeed put a shield in your taskbar that look quite similar to the real windows shield and some legit AV programs shields. I would recommend going to this other forum and tell them exactly what you have told us here and they will help you run some other scans to see what is still lurking, it is rare to get rid of these infections easily. You will need to register then start a thread in the area I link you to, it would be helpful if you then put a link from this thread in your post there so everything is in one post. Have you tried any online scans for malware? Might just be caused by nasties on the computer.
