Removeing Adobe Reader

I have done everything to remove adobe reader and to download the new version but to no avail.What must I do next?I'm not puter savy so if you know could you explain it in turms That I can understand?I have a DELL XP Thankyou.

Goldy, you should be able to remove it by going to Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Click on Adobe Reader to highlight, and then click Remove.

I tried Add/Remove in Control Panel here is the message I got.
"This patch package could not be opened.Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Patch Package."
My computer is 3yrs old XP,SP2.
Not being very computer savvy do you think this is a call the tech problem.

yes you have to keep Ie it is part of windows and it is always best to have at least 2 browsers on the pc incase one should fail you always have an alternate. I use and love firefox, there are tons of great add-ons for it that make my life so much easier, try searching here on the forum for firefox and you will find a lot of info. Learn Firefox Ultimate List of Firefox 3 Tips and Tricks those should get you started, you will love the ease of use and the tabbed browsing. the add-ons I always suggest are adblock plus to prevent ads on pages and use the subscriptions on Ricks easylist page Adblock Plus 1.1.3 EasyList and EasyPrivacy after you have added adblock plus to your firefox and restarted it then go there and scroll down to the 2 yellow lines on the right it says add to ABP click on that for both to add to your adblock plus. I also like colored tabs ColorfulTabs 4.1 to help you surf safer and avoid dangerous sites WOT - Safe Browsing Tool 20091028 if you spend some time looking through the hundreds of add-ons you will find so many that make life easier.

Bejay I can understand your reluctance to install things but there are precautions you can take to protect yourself. One is coming to places like this forum. Remember if I deliberately gave you false information others would immediately jump in and tell you not to take any notice of my suggestion. This is a huge built in safety factor for anyone who frequents these types of forums. Second. Download from reputable sites. Of course you do not know all of them but filehippo.com - download.com - pcworld.com - tucows.com are a few to start your list of safe sites to visit. Others will add more I suspect. Third. Google your choice and see what comments are out there. Look for the first 4 or 5 pages to see if they all heavily promote the program. If so probably best to stay away because those places get paid for each download and have little interest in whether the program is good, bad or indifferent. Look instead for reviews. Fourth. Learn how to create a Restore point. Then before any install create that Restore point so that if you are not happy with your new program you can simply restore to the point prior to the install.

First off lets get one thing perfectly clear I have NEVER claimed to be the ONLY person here HELPING, how absurd. I volunteer on numerous wonderful support/help forums with a multitude of absolutely wonderful knowledgeable people this one included. I never advise anyone to do or use something that I would not use myself and that will NOT change. And any time I see one recommended that I know has some problem I WILL with out doubt provide that info so that any person considering it will have full info to make an informed decision on that program themselves, with full knowledge. And I appreciate it when someone who knows something negative about a programs speaks up and provides that info, it is how we learn. IObit has been found guilty of several thefts of program material over the years this theft of malwarebytes is just one more. NOT the kind of people I want to entrust ANY ones pc to. Try reading the info provided about IOBit. I never mentioned you anywhere in my post, I simply referred to the program,(which I would have done no matter who posted about it, and have done in the past) no idea why on Earth you felt the need to slam me, but I am not the only one here you have done it to, it really does not surprise me. I spent a little time researching your concern through Google. What a fiasco this could be. What version are you trying to remove?

The version is 7.0.7
I went and looked on the web about the Window Installer had no idea what I should do.
In the Control Panel its says I don,t use it often also installed 11/21/05 it must have come with the computer, also on top of the Adobe Reader I have Adobe Flash Player ActiveX but it shows no space taken up on the hard drive but the Reader has alot of space taken.
Thank you for checking for me am open to any advice.

Gillian,

AR is quite often bundled with a new computer. The Adobe Flash is something unrelated to AR so don't be concerned over it.

I saw Mikie's link yesterday, but I didn't want to spend too much time with it as I was unsure as to your version. It seems the instructions for removal are version dedicated.

I have been planning to remove my v7 from my Vista system so this might be a good time to research that too.

I had to go into the Control Panel to find Folder Options, took a look in there didn,t click anything on or off but under Adobe- I see 2 listings XFDF and XFP, will read some more of the info Mikie sent before I do anything.

Goldy, if it didn't work when you tried to remove Adobe in the Control Panel? and you had a message show up on your screen like I had, what did yours say.
