I don't believe there is a way to hook up two modems to the wiring and have them function independently. You might be able to use one in a "repeater" mode, though, and that could possibly be done wirelessly. There are also specific repeater devices you can get to extend the signal, and that might be easier to do. I suggest you contact the manufacturer of your modem to ask what is possible with that specific model, and whether they sell a repeater device that would be easier to set up than a second router. By the way, have you confirmed that the streaming does not work well, or is that just a statement in the manual? By the way, I have a similar situation. I have a DSL modem with a 3MB signal that is connected to a router in an upstairs closet; my tv system is in the living room downstairs. I have an older DVD player without a streaming capability, but wanted to be able to stream Netflix movies. I bought the Roku wireless device that Netflix sells, plugged it in to the back of my tv as an additional input, and set up the connection in about 2 minutes. I am able to get maximum quality every time I use it unless someone else is using a computer in another part of the house, in which case picture quality drops down a little.

Thank you for all yours responses and no owbist I don't have the cable tech scheduled to come set up the cable modem high speed. The reason I don't is because when I called and gave them the info about the 1394 Net Adapter and a NIVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, I was told that this was for the dial up modem and not the ethernet. I expl to them that I did have an ethernet port. They told me that the software or drivers weren't loaded into my computer. However, Hewlet packard tech support said the 1394 Net Adapter and a NIVIDIA nForce Networking Controller WAS the drivers for the ethernet port. I didn't get this and I still would like to know where I could look into my computer and see the info on the ethernet port. The tech said I had to get this before they could set up the cable modem. I know some knowledge about computers, I just need to be guided on how to check my computer to see if I have the drivers etc in the system for the ethernet port that is in the back of the computer. We can't have dish in our development, so it will always be cable. What I really plan on doing is using a good ac router like the Apple airport extreme. I feel like ac wireless is plenty fast enough for me and wireless should only get faster. I currently have two rg6 cables running to the office...one for tv and one for the modem. I've also got rg6 running to all rooms where I might have a tv. I currently don't have cat wiring going to those rooms because as I said I plan on utilizing wireless. I have a wired phone in the kitchen and plan on having wireless handsets in other rooms.

Sorry Brick, Dangerously wrong. "Armored Cable" is a generic term. "Type AC" is a code specific term for a particular type of cable. Not all armored cable is Type AC. Old "BX" is NOT Type AC. The armor is NOT the ground in Type AC. There is an additional grounding conductor. If all there is grounding the circuit is the armor itself (no bond wire or ribbon), then it is not permissible to use that to extend the circuit in most jurisdiction.
