How do you insert a hot link in Hotmail using firefox?

Windows XP is my OS and Firefox is my browser of preference. The only problem I have with Firefox is when I'm in my Hotmail account and want to add a hot link to the text of a message. I've tried several approaches using the add-a-link icon at the top of the Hotmail message box: it either doesn't seem to work, or it gives me an underlined URL that looks like it will work, but the recipient can't open it to a valid address. When I use IE6 with my Hotmail program, the icon lets me paste a link and it works fine, but I'd prefer to be able to do this through Firefox, rather than having to specifically open up IE6 whenever I find myself writing an email that involves a hot link. Any suggestions?

Thanks. So are you saying there is no easy way to do it with the icon, and I should just use HTML?

bed bath and beyond has 2 packs of a heat resistant funnel that I use the smaller one from. works great with a normal 5oz woozy bottle (standard hot sauce bottle), as long as the sauce isn't ridiculously thick. and since I boil my funnel with the bottles in preparation for filling, being heat resistant is a plus.

To open a new window, I right-click on either a bookmark or a link and that gives me several choices (Open Link in New Tab, Open Link in New Window, etc.). If I choose New Tab, it goes to the web page and shows the address; if I choose New Window, it goes to the web page, but doesn't show the address...it just shows a little, blank rectangle, and the grayed-out words "Go to a web site." Here is what it looks like: This picture is what I got after opening a new window for the GardenWeb Computer Help Forum. However, the behavior is similar regardless of whether I am on GardenWeb or not. Finally, since I first posted, I have discovered that, if I click on this little rectangle in the address bar of the new page, the browser stays on the page and the address then appears. Interestingly, although all of my Bookmarks transferred in the update, and work fine, many of them lost the unique little icon that often precedes the name and also just display the little rectangle.

It ain't rocket science, so don't sweat it. Worst that will happen is that you'll mess up a couple of batches while figuring out the proportions, but here's a seat-of-the-pants trick for measuring the proportions of rice and water: Put the rice in the pot, spread out so it's flat and not a mound. (Some people recommend rinsing the rice first.) Hold your index finger vertically so it's just barely touching the rice. Fill the pot with water to the point where the water level just touches the finger crease of the distal finger joint (that is, the finger joint nearest the fingernail). Then close the pot and turn on the rice cooker. See what kind of results that gives you: if it's gummy, don't use quite so much water next time, if it's dry use a little more water. If that technique works for you, you never need to measure anything. OTOH, if you want or need to measure: I've had a couple of rice cookers, and found that the included measuring 'cup' is actually 6 ounces, so that when cooked it ends up making about 1 cup of cooked rice. So you can use a quarter-cup measure three times for each cup of cooked rice you want. If you want to end up with 3 cups of cooked rice, measure out into the pot 18 ounces (2 and 1/4 cups) of rice, fill the water to the 3 cup mark on the pot, and close it and cook it.

Love hotdogs! Nathan's all beef either grilled on the bbq or fried in a cast iron skillet on a toasted bun with yellow mustard and sweet relish. Or as a chili dog topped with chopped onions and cheddar cheese. I also really like hot links on a toasted bun with yellow mustard only. Not sure if I like the dogs or the yellow mustard best! I'd eat them more often, but know they aren't the healthiest food choice. I also know they are full of stuff that would gross me out if I knew it was in there, so I don't want to know what's in there. Ignorance is bliss in this case. A friend of mine once served turkey dogs to her then young children. Her daughter took a bite, got a funny look on her face and as she pulled back her head came away with a long white feather in her mouth. Put her off turkey dogs for life!

heck if I know. Most email programs now adays will convert anything they see www.someurl.com to a hot link. And most virus programs will disable any hotlink it sees in an email.

If I see a url in any email, it doesnt matter if its a link or not to me - if I want to visit it I'm gonna highlight it, right click and copy/paste it into my address bar. I wouldnt trust links from most people with all the contagious phishing going around.

I agree with you...but I have some computer-challenged relatives who haven't quite mastered the concept of cutting and pasting a link, so the only way to get them pointed in the right direction is to have it clickable!

I asked this same thing just recently...using Hotmail and Firefox. Below is a link to the thread. and here is part of it.

When you click on 'new' to send a message in hotmail and start a new message you will see 'show plain text' under the subject line. Click on this and it will change to 'show rich text'. Paste your link and when you send it it will be clickable. You can check this in your 'sent' box.

You might want to read it all though, as I have an AOL friend who says they are not clickable for her from me.

I too know lots of folks who do not know how to copy and paste at all.

Thanks, but that doesn't work for me. I was already using the rich text option. It sounds like this is one of those problems for which there is no universal solution...except for Mikie's reminder about HTML.

Could it be - just a musing here - that the person on the other end is set up strip everything down to plain ASCII text, or some such, and don't receive the link in the format you send?

Could be...but I've experimented with sending myself emails and the links don't work for me either when they're added using the Add-a-link icon in Hotmail.

1. Install "IE Tab" from:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

2. Open Hotmail in Firefox.

3. At the top of Firefox, click:
Tools > IE Tab Options > Add > Apply > OK.

4. Close Hotmail.

From now on, when you use Hotmail, you can compose message and insert hotlink that will work.
