Kingston USB drive question

Ok...I did the unbelievable :( Had my thumb drive in the front of my PC, needed to access the back of the tower, turned it over and bent the Kingston USB Drive. My computer does not recognize this drive now, but a guy at work thinks all the data is still there...perhaps just the 4 "wires" need to be re-soldered.

How do I get this repaired? I live in Houston, but do not have a problem shipping this off for repairs if someone knows of a VERY reliable source.

Have you tried powering down, carefully removing the drive and plugging it in another USB slot? You may have damaged the USB port on the PC.

I did something similar once when I tilted my laptop up to get the serial number or something. I powered down, carefully unplugged it, restarted and plugged it back in. It worked fine (although I didn't trust it much and copied everything off).

Thumb drives are very inexpensive these days so unless the data is vital you would be wise to toss this one and buy another.

If on the other hand the data is vital and you have no back up then you might consider visiting a local repair shop and talk to them. Suggest for confidential reasons you cannot leave the drive with the data, you need to remain there while it is repaired or the data recovered to another drive and see what they say. If they cannot or will not then ask for a recommendation to another local shop.

Not wanting to bash you while you are down but if this was your backup copy of the data and you save daily you should seriously consider using 2 thumb drives and alternate so you are never more than one day at risk.

I had my old drive that was in my original HP Pavilion computer. I was told that the drive had crashed about 2 years after I had gotten the computer. Well I just put the drive aside and forgot about it until recently. I hooked it up to the Sabrent 5 in 1 Cable to Serial ATA transfer thing and hooked everything to the drive and then plugged it in to the USB port on the tower of my home built computer. It was recognized and I was able to reformat it. Now I just need to get a new hard drive enclosure.Thanks to Owbist and Terry I was able to do it without having to call my son and bother him with a lot of questions.

you should be able to right click on the folder itself and select delete, you should be able to drag and drop items to and from the flash drive. The most important thing is to always remember never ever remove anything like a flash drive until you have clicked the remove safely icon down in your systray and select which item you want to disconnect from your pc and wait till it says it is safe to remove. Not doing that can really mess stuff up. I have no idea why it would change the order unless did it perhaps put them in alphabetical order? if you right click start then explore and open your explorer tree find the drive letter assigned to the flash drive then from the right pane you should be able to drag and drop anything into that drive and in the same manner remove stuff from that drive. Or go to my computer find that drive select it and view what is on it and manipulate the data. When you select a picture on the flash drive and right click on it do you not have options listed there as to how you want it to open?

Thanks for your responses. I did look up how to install a card in a pci slot, I would need more skill and knowledge than I have to do that. And when I thought about it, I do download pictures from our digital camera without a problem. I have been doing more research and talking to some friends who know more about computers than I do(not hard). From what I can gather, I can use an external hard drive having a 2.0 USB connection with a 1.0 USB port. It will affect(slower)the speed of the download. I am off to purchase the WD My Book Essential 320GB which is on sale at Best Buy. More capacity than I need at this point but good for the future and newer systems.
