Great job on the tree! That's a great banner, but I agree that it is better on the mantel too. Am I seeing something there that is white feathers? Can't quite make out what it is. Luvs

DD50, the topper is a combination of seveal different varieties of greenery picks. I just sort of stuff them all around in a circle and then I added those long beaded picks here and there. There's really no rhyme or reason to it. I used to do a big bow on top but I think that I like this way better.

Luvs, yes, those white feathers are actually ornaments. They have sort of a gold finial type thing on top. I wasn't real sure how they looked on this tree - they were recycled from my previous tree.

I have learned from looking at professional done trees that the way they get them to look so full is by adding all kinds of picks/stems to them. I always keep stuffing stuff in my tree until I think it looks good.

Simply yummy! Now, where did you get those giant peppermint candy??

Lara - I made the giant peppermints last year. They were very fun & easy to make.

Here's how:
I purchased several round/flat styrofoam disks and printed off the attached template and I might have enlarged it (can't remember). Place template over the styrofoam and trace pattern onto the styrofoam with an ink pen - making sure to press through so the marks are on the styrofoam. I used red fabric paint in a bottle and followed the lines and filled in with the red making sure to alternate the red with the white from the styrofoam to give it the peppermint effect. I also came down the sides with the paint. Optional - you can sprinkle glitter in the wet paint. Depending on how you are going to use them, you might also want to paint the backside as well. You have to play around with the placement of the template so that the two sides match up. Once the paint is dry, cut clear cellophane and leave enough on the ends to "tie" like candy.

Some of mine, I made to look like lollipops by sticking a wooden dowel in one end. For the red stripe on the dowel, I used red shiny curling ribbon and glued it to the dowel.

Hope that makes sense - I do not do well with giving instructions.....

Dawn, I love your tree! You did an outstanding job of decorating it. I like the banner, too, but would put it in front of the fireplace or over a large window if you have one. Your tree is just too pretty to let anything distract from it.

It looks like you and I have similar tastes. I have soft yellow walls and a white mantle, too. I just recovered a large chair in a yellow quilted floral with light red roses so I'm using reds and golds this year on my tree. Seeing yours has really inspired me to get it done. Thanks!

Diana - I love red with yellow. I think those colors really look great together. I need to incorporate more red into my LR - when the holidays are over.

Jim - LOL!! You've got me!! I'm not really sure what they are called...Yes, they are new and there are 3 to each stick. I got them at Ace Hardware last year. They carry a lot of Raz things, so they may be from there??
