I would suggest an HP AIO even though you say you are not in search of a printer as you can have more than one printer attached to your system. All you have to do is either select when printing or designate the Canon as the default. That's the way I have mine set up and it works just fine; AIO and a Photosmart

And, if the Canon does fail you are prepared to continue with your work product.

You can scan photos on any scanner but if you want one that will do slides and negatives you need one like this Epson. I really like the Epson photo scanner I have but it is no longer available.

bob414, Thanks for posting. I read an article on that scanner and they said the V30, I believe is available. And, no it can't do slides and negatives but is highly rated still on Amazon. Thanks for backing up the review.

I think scanners have come about as far as they can right now so any brand in a particular price range would do the job.

As we are 2 years into Windows 7 it would seem very unlikely that there is still old stock out there not designed to run on Win7.

I also have the V300 Photo as well....it's very dependable and user friendly. I had an ancient Epson and decided to go that direction again.

Damccoy, you know I always value your opinion. I was about to order your suggestion and pfmastin suggested a scanner and I got a good deal (see above) on an Epson.

At some point I know I will have and AIO and it could have been this week when you reasoned it out for me.

The Scanner is HERE so will try it out. Amazon sure works hard their money (so hard for it honey, wink wink). It came with free shipping in less than 24 hours.
Let's see how I do with connecting it.

It brought back to life an old photo that had darkened and I sent it to the people in the photo.

Ellie, I think you will be very happy with your Epson. I have an older Epson Perfection 3170, no longer available, and it has been really great. So many features, and yet easy to use. Congratulations on your purchase. Now be careful with that CC!

Oh, grandms, I thank you. I am having a good time putting together pictures of folks who have passed on and I miss.I feel this is the year I honor them on Pinterest of all places. Un huh. One of my boards is for them.

ps: I rmember in the late 1970s and the company I worked for had a new OCR machine. That thing was a disaster and yet state of the art. Numbers where there were supposed to be letters and really no help at all.

Now I have a scanner for $9 and change if you read above. Guess that was 32 years ago at least. Seems like yesterday. Ha ha. Thanks again for you good wishes.

I have just been exchanging pictures with an old high school classmate. Having lots of fun trying to remember and identify different people. I have probably thousands of pictures I need to scan and copy to disks so that all in my family have copies of old pictures of ancestors. I'd better hurry or I'll be one of the ancestors no longer around. LOL!

I think that's great to share them with a good friend and tell stories.

Copying pictures to discs is sure easier than suitcases of albums. In my case, I'm not sure anyone cares about the pictures and will get thrown out without a look. Life goes on. I just will have around me what I like to look at for now.

It is a long process of going thru albums and I have done one go round when I had time to myself and could think back on the pictures and bring out new memories.

I am glad you are enjoying your project.I think some of your pictures would make nice gifts to those who are in them.

Ellie, what a sweet deal you got! Good for you. I know it is too late for you, but others looking for copier/printer/scanner/fax should definitely look into the HP Officejet. I also have a tiny HP printer only that I have hooked to my laptop in my room if I want to print something from my laptop and am too lazy to get out of bed! I have had the best luck with them, I work them into the ground, and always buy another. And their ink cartridges are easy to find (although I am sure other brands are as well, I have just never had to buy a different brand!) and you can even refill them yourself.
