I thought it was 3/4 as well. It's true that the fitting at the range is 1/2 inch, (this is where the flex hose usually connects), but I thought the gas line going to the flex hose and the shut-off valve was suppose to be 3/4".

I just had one installed. According to the installation instructions, you need a 3/4" gas pipe to the range (1/2" + 1/4"). The range comes with a 4' connection hose that has the 3/4" adapter that connects to the gas line with a 1/2" to the range.

Wolf got into big problems by specifying a 1/2" line for their AG ranges last year. They discovered it really needed a 3/4" in order to have all the burners and gas oven going at the same time. So I would be safe and install the 3/4", the price difference to run a 3/4" vs 1/2" is nothing. If you already have a 1/2" in place, then I would probably try it out and see how it works (please post and let everyone know).

One thing that is a pain with the BS is in their spec's they also say you cannot have anything combustible within 36" of the top of the range. So if you have cabinets that are the standard 30" above the range top, they are not ok. Plus the specs also say you need a 36" hood fan (min 300cfm), with the top cabinets at least 36" apart above the range. Needless to say, we passed the gas inspection for the gas pipe, but we have to rip out our above range cabinets to pass the rest of the inspection (not a biggy in my case, since we're ripping them all out in a couple of months). But if you were just replacing a range and needed the gas inspector to come in, it could cost you some serious $$$$ to meet the requirements that BS put in their installation manual.

I had loads of trouble with 2 Wolf AGs and had my purchase reimbursed. There was never an official question of gas line size (tests showed lots of supply at the range) but just to be safe I went 3/4" to the range when I switched to the Bluestar. I don't even know if I needed to do it, but I feel better knowing that I did, and I also remember reading that recommendation in the manual.

Does BS supply a connection hose? I would rather not have to run a 3/4" line to replace and existing 1/2" line unless absolutely necessary. I will try connecting the range to the existing 1/2" supply and see what happens. I will let you know how it turns out.

My BS came with a 4' connection hose package (it was in the oven) with various adapters so if you change it to 3/4" later its not a problem. The hose default was 1/2" on both ends.

When I was doing my shopping for a range, I looked at Wolf and when I told him I heard about many problems with Wolf, he then admitted it was do to the gas line being too small when running everything (all burners and oven). He also said it was only with the AG not the dual fuel Wolf versions.

That's interesting because at no point throughout something like 10 service calls and umpteen phonecalls to Wolf was that ever suggested as the potential problem. Weird.

Wouldn't this discussion seem to imply that the bigger the range you get, the bigger supply line you need? Is that in fact the case? If you have a 36" range, or a 48" or a 60", do you need a proportionately bigger supply line to utilize the whole range?

Just to follow-up on my BS 30" RNB -
I had the range installed with the 1/2" line and everything appears to work well. I would have to agree with morton5, that a stove with more burners and additional oven might require a larger line. There is probably a formula to calculate the required line size based on total btu output for the range.
