I hope there is a class for seniors to learn windows 8.There is a book for dummies.While I'm waiting for the book to come can someone tell me how to download spellck?If not I will just have to wait and hope I have not miss spelled too many words.

Maybe you'd like to create a "system image"? Something like this? . I really don't know about the Facebook files. If you're talking about cached browser files I suppose you could clear browser cache prior to backing up but the space required to backup a few cached browser files would probably be so small that it wouldn't matter much either way. . "Also, would this backup take the place of a recovery disk?" Yes. I would either download and burn the bootable Windows 10 ISO or at least create the "system repair disk" (when offered by the system image tool). That way I'd have something to boot to in order to do the recovery (just in case my system wouldn't even boot up). --- "Restoring from a System Image Backup Should you ever need to restore your system image backup, start by making sure that the drive containing the backup image is connected to your computer. From here, insert a Windows installation disc and boot into setup. Once in Windows setup, click "Next," then choose the "Repair your computer" option in the lower-left corner. Next, click "Troubleshoot," then "Advanced Options," and select "System Image Recovery." Another possibility... I use a third party utility (Acronis True Image, there's a free Western Digital edition as well as a free Seagate edition), because of familiarity and habit. And I suppose because I've also used it to restore successfully (earning my confidence). I'm not saying the Windows image tool is either superior or inferior to Acronis; I'm not qualified to judge.

Since it's a new computer, talk with HP. That doesn't sound normal as far as charging speed. I've had good luck with HP in the past, so I would be inclined to get that one replaced with the same model and see if you still have an issue. What's the return policy where you got it? I always buy my computers at Costco because you've got 90 days to return them for any reason.

I have 2 HP Pavilions at my house and do not have the problem you are experiencing. I did have an issue that my battery would drain to very low charge if the computer was stored for a week. However, my issue was more with the "Window10 operating system than the computer. Something was active when the computer seemed to be shut down. A fully charged battery should be able to keep the BIOS settings alive and the clock/calendar running for many days, probably months. I did find one setting that was causing a drain. About slow to not charging: Two items could be at fault. One is the power supply that is in the power cord. One cord plugs into the household electrical outlet and the other end, carrying DC power goes to the computer. The power supply may be faulty. There has been problems with batteries shorting from over charging or trying to charge a failed battery pack. If a portion of the battery pack has shorted, then its output voltage would be diminished and a charger trying to bring that pack up to voltage overcharges the remaining good cells. If it does not fully charge overnight, there is something amiss. The problem could be the battery pack or the power supply. Our HP Pavilion computers come up to near full charge in 2 to 3 hours. By the way, make sure you did not plug it into a switched outlet that goes dead when you turn the lights off.

Do you have either an adult class center or a college? Some senior centers offer classes also. You might check with them. I get spell check with Google. There are places to check to get that.

win 8 has a pretty good built in spell check for this type of forums. I don't think it will let me speel wrong without pointing it out.

Just looking at the EIGHTFORUMS link makes me wonder if I even dare to try WIN8

I bought a Kingston Flash drive to put some things on to take to another PC when I get one. I went to their web site and it is also confusing.

I remember when computers were fun!!

When it's convenient and you have a cup of tea available you might want to spend time with the on-board Windows 8 Help file. You would be surprised how much you can pick up by doing so. Not only will you learn protocols and procedures, you will also learn the correct phraseology to assist in researching on Google.

In the end you will be fine. Enjoy the new system.

Have you seen the form you have tofill out just to register on EightForums?.Time I get down on my knees and find those numbers you would have to call 911.After just two days and my Grandson"s help I really know I am going to like it."Can"t teach an old dog new tricks?This is just like a new toy.I'm begining to like it.

On the main screen showing the tiles there is a tile that has a tutorial on the basics of Windows 8. I think it says "Getting Started".

Google is your friend. If you can't figure something out just do a search in Google, "how do I...??? using Windows 8?"
