Thanks, Jakkom! As I whined about in an earlier thread, I haven't been happy with Win10. It messed up my photo folders, and there's always been a slight delay before certain actions are taken; for example, editing commands with photos, and attaching a file to an email. If I'd known there was a time limit on uninstalling it, I would have acted quickly to remove it.

That said, I know not everyone has had an unpleasant experience with it.

Did you keep your old one? I always do. I have a computer kid like yours. He built most of mine but the last one I got was off the shelf. It was Win7 and at that time Win10 was just coming out and he said to wait. Usually every other build worked. I don't even look at them, I just agree with him that it's time and he picks one. jakkom, Think twice about going to Win10. Win7 will still work. In fact, I have a friend using XP. There's just no support but the operating system works.

Yes, I'm keeping the old one and will move it upstairs to replace the laptop I have there now. I'm not a big fan of laptops, mostly because I never learned the technique of typing on one. I'm a fast typist on a regular keyboard, so I have the upstairs laptop linked to one of those (and a separate monitor).

Imhappy- please caution your friend still using XP to not use that computer for any online banking, shopping, etc.

The problem with still using XP is Windows is not releasing security updates to it any more which would leave any sensitive online activity vulnerable.

I'm holding out on updating to Windows 10. My daughter is a computer programmer and suggested I wait a bit. She was 15 yrs old when she took a screw driver to our home computer and replaced the hard drive. Gotta love our kids who know what code means and write apps for Apple.

I had to buy another Photoshop Elements 8 for the new computer. I sold my original program when I bought PSE12, but was glad I kept 8 on the computer when I discovered 12 can't communicate with my scanner's TWAIN driver. So I've been using 12 for a few things, but 8 for scanned images (from negatives, slides, and prints), which I do a lot of.

I was surprised to see how popular PSE8 is on eBay; maybe it's because the TWAIN incompatibility started with PSE9.

Anyway, other than that and getting used to the new keyboard, the new computer and I are doing well. I wish I could say the same for the prescription computer glasses I got this past week. I'm taking them back.

Congrats on your new computer I know how happy you must be. Just think how much easier it will be to scan all of your photos now. Will Windows 10 work better on this one?

Microsoft seems to think so, as it has started its campaign of pop-ups already. But I"m ignoring them. I've been told to watch out for the KB 3035583 Windows 10 Download patch that can install on automatic updates.

Is this one windows 7? If so go to Windows update and search for that kb item, on mine it was under the optional updates list but on some it's in the critical important list. Right Click on the kb in the list and choose to hide or block it. If your computer is set to do the windows updates automatically it could have already installed it. You can uninstall it. That will stop all the poppop up and nags to get 10. If you need to know how to uninstall it if you find it is already installed just let me know I can tell you.

3035583 is the update number to remove if you want to remove that annoying icon.
