Hey Mongoct, The left does overlap 2", it shoots around the corner about 1/4", you just can't see it from that angle. I usually won't have them that close to the corner but sometimes the framing absolutely dictates it. The kerdi does not drop 2" below the screws. I just don't do that, dunno why. Perhaps I should start. You have chosen the photo without the flaps done yet - they actually kick back a bit to cover those corners, just barely though. It is not a 2" overlap there in the corners. Everything around it is a 2" overlap. It is the same concept as an inside corner. There may be a 'pinhole', which is not really a 'hole', just a spot that doesn't overlap 2", doesn't mean it isn't waterproof. That is exactly how they did it at Schluter and that's how I do it. I will sometimes place extra squares there to cover those corners, just depends on how I feel about it. If they can waterproof a cardboard box in that manner I feel confident using it in a shower. I know you're not trying to pick on me :-), like you said there are several different ways to do it. I don't mean to sound defensive, these methods are simply how I do it. Everyone has their own way.

My knee wall issue is taken care of with mitered tiles on the outside portion butting up to mitered tiles on each side. (so it fits like a picture frame). I don't know why you couldn't do the same, and on every other row have a split tile with a center line (the stacked look). The miter is cut on site, and you need to use some very good grout to make those edges strong but the look is good. My tile is travertine on this wall, but I'm doing the same on the tub surround with my italian ceramic tile (didn't offer a bullnose edge) so I don't see that it would be a problem with your tiles...Bill or Mongo can beat me up for that statement if it's incorrect :) I'm just telling you what we're going to be doing with both ceramics and stone. (And it does look great!)

Billy Billy Billy....you just have to come up to Alaska and go fishing! (And tile my entryway, powder room, small bath, and master suite) :oP And bring the wife :) It sounds like she and I could have fun while ya'll toss flies at fishies (or whatever you do) :) I actually enjoy fishing once or twice a year for King Salmon and Silvers. The first time I went fishing here I caught a halibut...280lbs or so of halibut (you really don't want to catch a fish that big). I hauled that pile of cardboard up into the boat (ok lets be honest...WE (everyone on the boat) hauled that thing in. Not knowing how horrible it would be to be stuck with that much halibut I was pretty proud, but when I turned around the boat captain had a pistol out!!!! I was a little worried he was upset I caught the biggest fish...but he leaned down and shot the poor darling right in the head! Fishing was never the same for me! (and thank god the foodbank wanted that stupid fish! It was WAAAAAAA too much halibut, and the big ones aren't good for much more than soup!) Have you ever caught a fish so big you have to shoot it????? Come on bill....My tile and those fish are waiting (heh heh)

Those tiles have a slight back cut to them. The real secret was the drywall bead I used next! These are plastic drywall beads with a tear away strip. I tore the strip away and just used the finished product from the start. These beads common at speciality drywall shops but not at your everyday home cheapo I kept the bead off the tile edge 1/16" and then later grouted that. The hot glue gun I used to spot set the bead. Later joint compound was forced into the holes and then the ouuze out raked away from where grout ended up. The slight back cut can easily be done with a grinder and diamond blade. No wet saw needed... No tile edging strips where used in this entire bathroom build. Those strips and bull nose tile seam to be used by those setters not wanting to do mitered corners. I hate the look of both really so maybe it is just my taste that ends up winning in the end. Most clients don't care one way or the other. As long as it looks nice. My way takes longer. Requires more skill. And cost more. What do you think? Worth it???
