I love it! I think you've put together a creative and festive space where your guests will enjoy sharing a holiday meal. I love the lights on the table and on the ceiling. Do you have enough room on the buffet for all of the food or will you need to add an extra table for that?

In short, the term 'organic' as it is commonly used is far too limiting a concept, and is being perverted . . ." I agree with you, pnbrown! There is so much more to "organic" that is being lost in today's rush (by some)to jump on the organic bandwagon for the sake of a buck. Sustainability and local, fresh produce with vitamins intact are certainly important to me. And soil building is one key element. Produce is not necessarily organic in the true sense just because it's labeled as such. Crowded feedlots and the absence of hormones do not jive with the term, to my way of thinking, yet there is still an "organic" label on the milk. Humane treatment (of humans and animals) also has something to do with defining it IMO. I have been gardening (very small-scale) for nearly 30 years using no pesticides and little fertilizer other than compost. Still, I would rather buy local produce where I know the food is fresh and from a small, family-owned farm, than to buy some of the organic fare in the local health food venue. I feel that by doing so, I am working on a larger scope, though smaller scale, helping to promote that small farm rather than a conglomerate that calls itself "organic" but may be found lacking if truth be told. With education and thoughtful discussion, perhaps the small farmers can be convinced to stop using pesticides, but this is done by reaching one person at a time. Sometimes it really doesn't take much convincing when presented in a non-threatening, non-judgemental way. And we each can have an impact on our world, on the future, keeping in mind it is the way we present it that often turns the tide. If I buy local produce at a farmer's market, and have personal interaction with the grower, do you think he/she will be more apt to listen to me the next time when I remark that I prefer my veggies without pesticides? Might I have the opportunity to enter a discussion with that grower? My own physician was convinced by several visits and the GENTLE presentation of research, something he could relate to, and a few issues of Organic Gardening Magazine (which, is a whole other discussion that I'll not delve into now). After thoughtful consideration of the facts this doctor, who was VERY into "chemicals" for his garden, started thinking about his own toddler and the impact of pesticides and herbicides on the next generation. Guess what happened? He is now gardening organically! It truly becomes a matter of common sense, don't you think? When presented with the facts, if one has an open mind, what else can one do? Also to note, I rarely venture onto this forum, sometimes read posts, but have found many organic-minded individuals on other forums on GW. Most are "common sense" folks, and will hear you out if treated with the respect we all desire. Just my 2 cents. Sorry if a bit long. . . rosebush

It might have bothered me if I had been home, but I worked. In winter, I went to work in the dark and came home in the dark, and during the day I was so busy that I didn't have time to think about it. During the summer it was fantastic. A lot of women got serious cabin fever in the winter and some people would have to put foil on their windows so they could sleep. I found winter to be fun because the cold is dry and you can play outside. We loved to tube down the hills, and ice skate. After we moved to Oklahoma (east of Norman), my children said they all needed to talk to me about something. I thought they had a serious problem so we planned a time later that night so we could talk about it. Their problem.....they all wanted a new winter coat because they were freezing at the bus stop. We went the next day and bought longer coats that were water resistant and would stop they wind, and that solved the problem. Our boys love it there and would love to go back. I have never had a desire to live anywhere cold since I broke my back. I have 9 inches of steel going down both sides of my spine and it gets cold. I never had trouble with the cold before I got Harrington rods in my back, but if I get too cold now, I just shake all over. Valdez is a nice place to visit....ends there for me. Alaska is the one place that I have lived where no one cares what anyone else does, or wears, or how much money they make, etc. If you went 'out on the town', one table might be in formal wear and the next one in blue jeans, and no one cared. It was a place where everyone lived their own life the way they wanted to live it, and if didn't hurt someone else, they were just left alone. I loved the sled dog races. Of course, in Anchorage it wasn't a sure thing that you would have enough snow for the beginning of the race. We still had a house in Wasilla for several years after we moved back to the 'lower 48'. After Al retired from the USAF and we were living in Ohio, he and our son drove back to Wasilla to work on the house. The repairs took 3 days, but they were gone two months. I think the fishing was just too good. LOL

Thanks, Fun. I think we'll be able to get all the food on. I've never done anything but barbecues before. I did make a little shelf (about 1/3 the depth of the buffet that I've put sauces, bread (in a long narrow basket), and butter on during summer parties. So I suppose we'll be using it for gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls and butter. I'll just have to see how it goes. There's no room for the candles, of course.

Oh, Nana. You're such a sweetheart. I can't wait to show it to my guests.
I've practiced on a rainy night with the French doors open and the fireplaces on in both the family room and patio, and it seems to be quite cozy. So I'm hoping that we'll get better weather than I had for my "practice run" and everything will be fine.

Santa Hat chair covers!!! No. I missed them.
When I bought the little Santas, I remember thinking that I couldn't possibly make 12 of them for $12.

Ooooooo. Maybe I can justify 20 chair covers with the same reasoning.

Right down Santa Claus lane .... alright!!! Super duper!!! Oh that t'cloth just sets a backgrd for the whole kit & kaboddle (or however that phrase is spoken)... it is 'perfection!' Love the burlap wreath & the stockings @ the mantle.

& yes, you certainly must have plenty of 'light on the subject' because it looks spectacular ...the mason jars is a cool idea & the wine & mugs...looks like a real 'down home' Christmas potluck! Of course, the chalkboard 'coffee' & 'dessert' list brings a 'touch of class' to the party! ;-) And I remember that dresser you refinished into a side table...looks great!

WOW! What fun! Hope the weather is grand & that you can still enjoy a comfy fire...your son (?) should be proud of how you engineered tables for everyone to sit tog! Now, relax & enjoy the days ahead! TFS! Jeanne S.

That has got to be the cutest, coolest, most clever Christmas table arrangement I've ever seen! SO creative! LOVE the tablecloth, the napkin rings, the Santas and lights, the coffee station, the stockings, the wreath, the lights...heck, I LOVE IT ALL~

That's sweet of you to "feel my pain."

Actually, I've often thought about making chair covers for Christmas (and the 4th of July as well.). I started a collection of the chairs when we were a young couple. I'd get two every three or four month when they went on sale. They been used at First Communions, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, and even one party where a young woman was sworn into the California State Bar. (My neice is a judge and she swore in my best friend's daughter.) My friends just come by and pick them up whenever they need them.

They have served us well, but they are so terribly industrial looking, and I especially notice it when they're used inside at Christmas. I think I shall vow to make a set for Christmas and for the Fourth, as I always use them on those two holidays. Hey! That might be my New Years Resoltuion.

Well, after a few sleepless nights worrying about the sudden drop in temperature, everything went well. It was nice and cozy. I thought I'd share a photo
that one of the guests took using the iPhone panoramic feature you see advertised on TV.

The three Santa hats you see, sit atop my grandchildren. They were passing out the Party in a Bag gifts when this was taken.

Ohhh...I'm so happy to see this photo! Wow! Great party! & so cool that you got a panoramic view!! I'm glad it was nice & cozy ...did you need the fireplace? Real cold here on Christmas ... ZERO @night.

you have them and share. We borrowed chairs from the
school for DD's wedding and hauled them 40 miles.LOL

Is that a kitty I see in the picture? Ours was ran over
right before Christmas. One of my neices that was here
visiting for Christmas wanted to buy me a new one but I
passed. We don't have to buy kitties in MT and I'm just
not ready to bring a new one in this winter.Sigh!
