vanity top with AO Coliseum White or Dal Carrera Star

I want to use one of these tiles in my bathroom. Had thought we would put real carrera on the vanity however, the sample sitting on the existing counter etched in a matter of weeks! I need a more durable alternative. Has anyone found anything that matches these tiles?? Pictures would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am in the same quandary. I will be using Daltile Navelli white in the tub surround and possibly on the floor. As for the vanity top, I think I might go for a tempered glass top. A lot depends on whether you have a standard vanity size or not. I found a 49 x 22 glass top, which will fit a standard vanity. The glass is made in all one piece with the bowl and backsplash with eight inch holes pre-cut for the faucet. Home Depot carries it (Pegasus). This might be a bit more modern solution depending on your tastes.

Do you happen to know what etched the sample? I ask because I have been living with my carrera marble countertop in my bathroom with Daltile Navelli Carrera Star tile and I have not yet seen any etching. However, I am concerned about it and would like to try to prevent it from happening in the future. I did go out of my way to put in a pH neutral hand soap and have not yet washed the countertop with anything but water.

If you're looking for white, have you looked into some of the white granites and quartzites (white princess, luce di luna, white fantasy, to name a few)? They are very popular in the kitchens forum and the pictures look lovely.

Ok, thanks, Gitananoel! I like simple too, but I also like a bold look with the black - I am sick of making decisions - lol - I wish I could go away for a couple of months, come back and have it ALL DONE!!! I am told when my floor tile goes in and then the toilet, I WILL have to go away since I only have the one bathroom and I guess the tile has to "sit" for a couple of days. Good grief, why did I start this? Because, I keep saying, it's all worth it in the end.

I love the marble top I received and it was very similar to the one I saw in a RH store. You can also purchase samples of the counter material online ($20 I think?). I will probably be purchasing some samples now (yes, after the vanity is installed) to test out soaps and find out what will or will not etch. I think a dark gray tile on the floor and white tile on the tub surround would be absolutely lovely. Personally I would use tile colors in the "cool" family (whites, grays, etc) to be in keeping with the cool colors of the carrara top. I will definitely post pictures when I am finished. Things have been a little crazy lately and I'm at about the 90% completed mark and am struggling to find time to finish.

pps7-- Thanks for the great pix. I ordered a sample of the Catarina tile. And many thanks to the person who posted the American Olean website link for the tile. That was so helpful. I thought it would be simple to find a Carrera Marble look alike tile but it has been an ordeal! Guess I was looking in the wrong tile stores (about 7 total, with one find that turned out to be discontinued!) **On another note: Where did you get your beautiful medicine cabinet? Is it wood, and do you like the quality? I found one at Pottery Barn online (Hotel is the brand) but can't look at it in person, so would have to buy first. I also saw one at Restoration Hardware but the quality didn't seem top rate. Thanks for any help.**

I used the Navelli Carerra Star (Dal Tile) in my master shower and I am thrilled with the outcome. I used it for my shower walls, bench and floors (inside shower and out). I could not be happier - - - when the grout on the walls, seat, etc. need to be cleaned- - I just spray on some diluted bleach and it sparkles! If it was real tumbled marble, I would'nt able to do that and just did'nt want the maintenance or worry of discoloration, etc. I have the look I wanted, with the easy maintenance of porcelain. It turned out looking really nice. I did however use the real thing for my vanity/sink area in a contracting black marble.

Don't have a clue, pricklypearcactus! I had just left it sitting on my side of the vanity (so I'm the guilty one!). I wasn't careful; just went about daily life in the bathroom. I have no idea, but I know that I don't want a vanity that I have to be careful with. I need simplicity! Good luck with yours! Post any pics?
