Antivirus Soft is a rogue anti-spyware and ransomware program from the same family as Antivirus Live. No, but that sounds like last week's problem on another laptop. That fake scanner ("Virus Shield") was a pain. It installed shortcuts, etc., kept popping up and "running" while it also disabled everything else. That was handled with malwarebytes after a restart in safe mode w/ networking. After a week I hear grumblings that it's still acting up. More to deal with tonight.

I seem to have handled today's problem with ESET. Thankfully it ran on Firefox since Internet Explorer was affected.

I dealt with Antivirus Soft on client PC about a month ago. Real nasty malware. I removed the infected system drive and connected it to another computer. A USB drive adapter made it an easy job. After scanning the drive from the clean PC (Avast and Malwarebytes) the malware was removed.

The same process may work on similar infections.
