Temporary turn off AVG

My friend's computer got infected by some nasty malware that pretty much locked up everything. I downloaded Combofix to my computer and then transfered the program to his. Combofix wanted me to shut down the antivirus software (AVG Free 9). I couldn't find the off button on AVG. Since I was in safe mode couldn't even 'end task' out of it. Anyone know how to temporarily disable it? BTW, Combofix worked even with AVG running. A good program.

Yeah but turn it off and save the combo fix log. Here are disable security software instructions.

When you finish with combofix do the following,

Remove ComboFix
The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:
Click Start Run then copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u Note the space.........

I would not use that program, I would do as stated and install the free malwarebytes, update it and run a full scan and let it clean what it finds. usually when a program is not allowed to run on a pc and it is a security program it is because there is an infection on the pc which prevents them from running so it will not be detected. I would add malwarebytes to the pc you say will not run superantispyware also. If you are unable to run these programs also that is confirmation you have an infection stopping the security programs. If that is the case you will need to go to a security support forum for some in depth assistance. Once you have done the malwarebytes scan and let it clean please come back and inform us of the results, posting the log would be helpful. the game itself may contain the infection which is why it won't allow you to remove it.

Jerry I bought an Acer convertible laptop/tablet and the finger control does not work well at all, it did a first but not now. I am off to buy a mouse today. I couldn't even find a way to turn it off without goggling. LOL I installed the classic shell so I could set it up and customize it . After I do that I am going to use the W 8 start screen and learn it. It is is quite a change working without a right click and I keep reaching for a mouse. I did Google a bit and found a way to right click, takes two hands. I haven't found a way to toggle between the shell and w 8 start page yet. Will work on that after I get a mouse.

Restart the computer gets it running ?? fwiw; I had that problem happening frequently. On my win8.1 - it was a recent new version 7 of EaseUs Todo back up program was the cause. I finally uninstalled easeus. Havent had windows defender freeze since. Which is what MSE is called on win8 . Experiment with pausing ease us ? or if you don't have that, program, maybe try uninstalling MSE and after a restart, re-install it. MSE has a timer on it,, if it stops, its supposed to try to restart in 60 seconds, maybe after 3 tries it gives up until you restart the computer.

I wasn't going to do anything because I'm supposed to get auto updates. Ususally when I get the Updates are ready message, I check and they are already installed. Well, I just checked and I have one update necessary. I'm doing it now, hoping that nothing is wrong. It's working, but boy is it slow. I do have virus protection. More scary though - I got a message the other day that a virus was innoculated. Here's hoping nothing is wrong. I can't stand these bored techno-geeks!! With all that we could use their talents for, they choose to do this. I'm sure they could get satisfaction and more money working their talents honestly.

Because of the thoroughness of the program, you should take all of the precautions that ComboFix suggests to you to prevent any permanent damage or data loss to your machine.

The tool should really be used under supervision from an Expert Malware remover....

I am strongly echoing zeps warning about combo fix this is a tool that is ONLY to be used by the malware experts with very specific instruction for each individual and specific to each machine and infection. Using combo fix improperly can leave you reformatting the pc. All of the support forums provide that warning prior to giving instruction for use.

If they have that kind of infection it would be very advisable to go to LzD and have them help with the removal because it very well can still be lingering.
