Script Causes This Forum to Stall

For the past 2 or 3 days, this site has occasionally been causing my computer to stall and I get the following message:

Suggestions to remedy would be appreciated. A full MAM scan last night was clean. FF NoScript is enabled.

Computer: Win XP w/SP3; Router WPA2; FF 19.0.2; MSE; up-to-date MAM, SAS, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spywareblaster

Something you most likely just have to live with, unless you want to enable all advertising and popups here. Or if you have an adware blocker that allows you to input a custom url add that http://graphics.gardenweb.com/stc/ivjs/ folder address to it.or the whole thing.

I had one bothering me for a while but I trained myself to avoid it. Couldn't close the tab or browser .. so probably some pop on close or run on close JavaScript. Win8 ie10

I had the same problem and still don't know what caused it. I contacted the web masters and asked if I was the only one with the problem and they said they had no complaints. I reset Firefox to default settings and I didn't have any more messages, it still hesitates a bit, but not as often.

Ok, even though my AVG did it's auto-update earlier, I pulled up AVG and clicked update again. Now I've been surfing all over GW for about 15 minutes and no more messages. So, doing that seems to have resolved the problem again, for me. In my email from the tech two evenings ago, he also said this: this detection was suppressed through the "in-the-cloud" detection verification mechanism. This is enabled by default, but a few AVG users may have disabled it or be using old versions of the product that do not include this feature. These users will have to wait until the next detection update ships, but most users should have seen the detection stop a few hours back." So, it sounds like how quickly the corrected update solves the problem for each AVG user may depend on how some of us have our AVG set up, or which version we're using. You folks know more about how this works than I do, I'm sure! I'm dog paddling as fast as I can. ;-)

Unresponsive script message?

Because I loaded it on my computer and it screws everything up, and makes the computer lock up, no matter if it's IE or Firefox. One more thing I'm blaming on Vista, just because I hate it. Of course my AVG and Firefox is fighting all the time too, as is AVG and this site. well, none of that happens here at Elery's with his Mac, only at home with my Dell. Annie

Thanks for the help, Jack! I used latex primer in the original work but see the wisdom in using oil based as you suggest. I've also been advised to go with a durabond setting compound this time instead of the joint compound in a bucket that I used before as it dries much harder and is more resistant to water. Using that in combination with the oil based primer will hopefully give me a durable repair. Thanks again!

for those with adblock plus on your firefox if you have not added the easylist subscription to your adblock you NEED to do that it has the list of all the known ads to block for those that have it and are having issues be sure you update your easylist. Here is where you get easylist it only takes one click to add it on. Add EasyList to Adblock Plus click where you see that text on the page.

June, if you get really tired of those messages there is a way to turn off windows warning messages like the script. I found it when I was researching this problem. The others can tell you if this is a wise move or not. If mine had not gone away when I reset FF's settings to default I would have tried it. Script messages are very irritating.
