3 car garage versus 2 car garage
Comments (10)I've never head anyone say - "We have too much garage space". Garage space is relatively inexpensive compared to sq/ft costs of a home. You don't have to heat it or carpet it or furnish it. The extra cost will be for the extended slab, walls, roof and door. Be careful you don't shrink your garage too much. A Miata is what you have now, but what if you want to buy something else down the road? Remember, too, to allow space to get in, out and walk around your vehicles. It's amazing how big a car becomes once it is in an enclosed space. Especially trucks or SUVs with oversized mirrors. A too small garage can become a daily source of irritation - not to mention the possibility of damaging your cars if you can't open the doors without hitting the wall or another car. If you plan to have a yard, you'll need someplace to store tools and mowers and such as well. Be sure and engineer the trusses/joists above the garage to support the extra weight of your bonus room floor and the storage space....See More2 car vs 3 car attached garage price
Comments (52)> Friends, I really need your help. I want to buy a car. More precisely not only myself. For the whole family. Have you considered hiring an architect? An architect can design and build a car you will love. He will interview your entire family to gather the requirements and will decide the proper car orientation. Your crazy aunt Sally wants a space on both of her sides for her favorite cats - no problem, she will love our new design. Space for your pet hamster - we will provide the wheel. 60 Gallon aquarium in the center for your pet shark - what a great idea. An architect can help you avoid costly car mistakes like: closets with no window, the gas chambers, wardrobe closet at the end of a bathroom. Comments (24)You should build the largest garage you can fit on the property. It will get filled up. I know lots of people that use their garages only for storage. You can never have a big enough garage. We built a 24'x24' garage for our previous home. It really was my garage and my husbands shop. With things in it his full size Chevy truck was tight so he never parked in it. We also have 3 motorcycles that we stored in an enclosed trailer. Our new house has a triple garage with one small and a double door. At only 21' depth his truck still gets parked outside. Our motorcycles are in the smaller side and my small car is center stage in the larger. If he were to park in it he would need to close the garage door after walking around the back of the truck. His truck does have a large grill guard that is the problem. But he has plans on building another garage that is 27' deep for his truck and projects....See MoreCustom detached two-car garage
Comments (2)A rectangle garage is “simple” enough, that if you’re not looking for detailing your match the house, then you don’t need an architect involved. But, if you do want a building that looks great, and echoes the house detailing, an architect can help you with that. Does he have a transit and can measure the future site? Because “flat” isn’t usually flat. That’s the biggest issue that people don’t realize, until they try to fit garage plans to the actual site . Garage entries need to be at grade. If the ground slopes away, you’ll need compacted fill at the rear. If it slopes down towards you, you’ll have to remove dirt and degrade to keep water away. Siting the garage needs that information, as well as required setbacks, utility paths and easements, etc. Even a simple rectangular garage can end up pretty complicated to build unless your on a large dead flat lot, with no utilities interfering with anything. Which brings us to how you plan to get electrical service, or any other service, to the garage. You have to figure that out too. Find a good local contractor, and talk to them about what you hope to achieve. The more time and money you spend with a pencil in hand rather than a hammer, the better the job will be....See Morekirkhall
