I have just loaded Outlook on a new notebook, Outlook 2002. I've used this version of Outlook since 2002, but alas that notebook did a big crash. The good news, I had all but the last two days of message folders on a back up drive, in a folder called "Exchange". Now, on my old XP home there was a folder called "OutlookFolders" which had "Exchange" and other details in it. So, all I need to do is copy the back-up data into the new computer's "OutlookFolders", but I can't find them, nor can the XP search. I do have folders maked to shoe hidden. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have already emptied/deleted them from the Deleted Items folder they are gone absent a successful use of an application such as RECUVA which will be iffy. If you haven't and cannot find any Deleted Items folder, have you opened the Local Folder and/or any named dedicated folder by clicking on the + in front of it? This will reveal an account's tree. Ok, OE is an email client. You can utilize it to set up your email from various providers (comcast, verizon, ect) If, for instance your email address was joe_nm@comcast.net, someone conceivably could go right to comcast.net and log in with your email address and actual email password (if they knew it)and access your email. That's the point that I was trying to make about your comment "info says this does not prevent access to messages outside OE.". Identities in OE are fairly safe if your family members don't have the password and you remember to log off after using it. It's certainly not iron clad, but is fairly good protection.

urlee, I know what you mean about dialup. I just got high speed in February. I did find the answer to my problem with OE. Just on the off chance something might show up I checked my e-mail settings at my server for my e-mail. When I clicked the button to make changes it showed I had nine letters (shown as dots) in my password, but I knew it should have only 8. I deleted what was there and re-entered my password and saved it. I then went to OE and low and behold it worked. I have no explanation how the password could have gotten changed since it has worked since Feb. when I got high speed and they helped me set up OE as my e-mail. I don't know what my friend did to give me a little more speed, but I don't think he would have been in my server website. Go figure? I am just glad I found it, and it is working.
