finding my geanology

my desk top computer was not working and so I got my repair man to come and fix it. The long and short was it was not fixable, so I asked him to transfer all my stuff over to my lap top. Unfortunately he did not transfer any of my geanology and that is something that I want. My geanology was a 10. My question is can I put this 10 on my windows 7??? Or should I buy one of the newer CD's

Assuming you have the CD for the genealogy program place it in the computer and follow along. You will be told if it can be installed or not.

You say the program is 10? But what is the name of it as there are many such programs out there? That way perhaps someone else has the same program and can offer more concrete advice.

If he did not try installing the program did he transfer your personal family history data? If not do you still have the old computer, because if he transferred other stuff the hard drive must be readable.

If you successfully install the genealogy program, it will be empty. You'll need to import the data, which is still on the old computer. This is done from a back-up copy of the data, which should be done frequently and stored on some other media, just in case. Everyone makes back-up copies to safe guard their work, right?

That's definitely not a grape. With all that new growth, it's a bush of some sort, but not a grape. Do you have a county extention service nearby that could help you identify it. It looks wild. Maybe even a bean of some sort. You probably have cabbage loopers on your broccoli. Look for little green caterpillars. Have you had any small white moths or butterflies flying around lately? What I great find, keep digging I bet you get some more great stuff in the section. I hope you find enough bricks to do all that you want to. All I find here is old PVC pipe. Well that's not true, I have found about 7 or 8 old rusty horseshoes I tacked up on my grape arbor fence. Years ago I saw an ad for some free brick in the newspaper in the next town. I knew if I didn't go get them right away, they would be gone. DH had the truck on a job and I went by to ask him about it - he said he needed it. So at the time I was driving an old cadillac - you know the kinds that are just huge - I went by the house with the bricks and decided to load them in my car (the car was just a ratty old thing anyway) I filled the trunk and then I put some on the floor of the backseat. It took me quite a time to load all of them. Then I started driving home - we lived up a winding mountain road - the car was swaying so bad I had to go 40 miles an hour the whole way - most folks drove 60 on that road and I had quite a line of traffic behind he. I got home and started unloading them. When DH got home and saw I had hauled them in the car he almost flipped. He is real safety conscious and he said I could of killed myself - anyway I ended up making a brick walkway with them in what we called our lower 40 at that house. Who can pass up a free item.

Found it. A 1/4" hole popped through the metal flashing (gutter drain) between the 2 slopes of roof. Basically I diverted a highway of water to the family room wall corner. Filed it with spray foam. Any suggestions on this repair/ longevity of using foam for this repair are appreciated. The path of this hole is: The metal flashing, a 2x4, finished sheet rock (no attic space in between). When the room was re-done in the past, the ceiling was taken direct to the 2x4 roof framing on that slope.

Xedos, Not sure I'm understanding (but thank you so much for advising me on this). For the contract, I will have as much spelled out as I can. As for speaking to the contractors initially to get estimates, I have not been asking for specific waterproofing methods. Based on the conversations I've had with contractors around here it looks like Laticrete is the only vendor around here with a real presence. It's the only product that multiple contractors mentioned using. I haven't spoken to anyone who has said .. I've used laticrete, redguard and ditra ... which one would you prefer. After weeding through the contractors that don't waterproof the walls, and the ones that don't preslope the floor when using a vinyl pan, I feel like if I filter contractors by a specific kind of waterproofing before they even give me an estimate, I will never find someone. Ok, I'm off to email my newly drafted scope of work to a contractor that I got off the CTEF website. Please continue to advise!

thank you all. The site is called family tree and no I do not have the old computrer as the repair man took it and now has disposed of it. I have written to family tree but so far no answer.

The computer is gone, as is the valuable data. Sorry about that. You mention Family Tree SITE. Have you actually uploaded your tree (the GEDCOM files) to an online site? If so, you should be able to download the data BACK onto your computer. Of course, you'll first need to install any Family Tree SOFTWARE (the program) for a place to put the data. It would have been best to be using a back-up copy, which you don't seem to have created. Good luck.

Grace, am I right in thinking that your program is Family Tree Maker 2010 and that your research and records have been found and stored on www.Ancestry.com?

If so, then all your records will be safe and you will be able to easily download them from Ancestry.com onto your new computer.

Family Tree Maker 2010 (and 2011) work perfectly on Windows7 so there is no need to buy new CDs.

Start by installing Family Tree Maker 2010 on your computer.

Then telephone Ancestry.com on their toll free number and they will talk you through the simple steps to get everything running again.
