Please please please do not change your LONG safe secure passcode to something like butterfly it is long and made of various characters for a reason!! It is keeping you secure. I personally never change mine I do write it down on a slip of paper and tape it to the router. To get it someone has to be in my house. If you do decide to do this which I warn you highly to be thoughtful of, you must choose a LONG password that is NOT a real word but made up of letters and numbers and characters. Create a sentence and use the first letter of each for example. If you have 3 children Bob, Ted, Alice you could do BTA*79*81*83*1950 that is the 3 first letters of the children *79 would be Bobs age etc for each childs age and the last 1950 could be the year you were married or you were born etc. those are things you would remember but do contain all of the required characters. JUST do NOT use any real words. another option is to download a very simple little program that lets you type in any phrase and it will translate that into the proper code needed. so you can type in something like I like to ride bikes and swim and it turns that easy to remember phrase into the long complicated key code, but all you need to remember is the easy phrase. I would never use an external password manager. I have a couple of reasons for that. For one thing, if the external site is compromised, it doesn't matter how strong your passwords are. They're compromised. For another thing, what if that place goes out of business? How will you find your passwords? As for passwords written on a pad, that has some pretty obvious problems, too. If it's not handy to the computer, it's not going to be up to date. If it is handy to the computer, if you have a break-in, if the thieves are smart, they'll cover their tracks and just use the info in the pad (fortunately, most thieves aren't smart, but I wouldn't bet my life's savings on it). I keep a password protected spreadsheet with passwords in it. I have tabs for different uses (financial, shopping, etc). I never use passwords that are in the English dictionary or would be if I changed 0 to o. I tend to use words in Asian languages and mix upper and lower letters and add some numbers and special characters as well. Recently, a lot of hotmail accounts were compromised. The most common password was 123456.

Yep, erased the saved PW2 and tried to send an email, was offered a chance to inter PW1 and the transmission of the email went. Checking Options/security I don't find PW1 saved, I may need to click on "save password" on the next use. Thanks, this comphelp has been helpful as always.

Thank you all. Kudzu, that's exactly why I asked. It happened to me with two sites and I stopped doing it. Frankly, when I go to log into a site, such as my bank, gmail, etc. I keep having an Apple notice to let me know my password is weak and I should let them put in a strong password. Made the mistake of doing so and realized I had no idea what the password was. Frankly, it was a long string of characters and numbers which I didn't write down because I was outside and not at home. I had to then find a way (wasn't easy) to delete the phone password to be able to access my accounts on my computer. I really didn't give it alot of thought at the time and realized I couldn't use one password on my phone and my old password on my computer. I suppose if I had a Apple computer it would carry over from the phone to the Apple machine. I do not intend to buy a Mac . So, thank you all for confirming what I thought...when I thought about it! Elmer, I do the same. I keep an index file (Rolodex type) in a drawer near my computer. However, I realize I've been using the same passwords (slightly changed when websites require more characters or #'s) on most of the places I visit. I would like stronger passwords but would never memorize the Apple type passwords to memory. I wish passwords would go the way of the dinosaur and use retina or something similar that doesn't require us older folks to remember all these passwords.
