Will a shower curtain work on a low curbed shower?
Comments (3)slc, we replaced our standard tub with a shower only, using the kerdi shower kit. With the slate tile on top of the curb, the outside finished cork floor to top of curb measurement is around five and five 8ths high. The inside shower floor to tile top is around 3. I find my shower curtain blows in a bit at the bottom, but I generally solve this by putting a shampoo bottle on the bottom hem, on the curb, or making sure the window in the shower is closed while showering. Had I realized that the inside measurement was higher with the kerdi floor in, than the outside.. well duh!! (brain malfunction on my behalf!!) I'd have raised the curb another couple of inches, just to not feel the cold curtain on warm body parts. Someone had mentioned in passing that perhaps I have an issue because I have over a foot of space above the curtain rod to the shower arch, and if I got a longer curtain (to the inside top of the arch, I might not have this issue. Haven't done it yet! Good luck! Kym...See MoreDeciding how to fit tub and shower along 9' wall
Comments (20)Thanks. He is putting a walk in tub in his permanent residence here locally for my Mom and himself. Since this is a family vacation / sometimes rental home, he doesn't want to do that up there. I think I am going to be able to convince him to get rid of the tub and install a large shower with a bench, and a linen cabinet next to it. Thanks for all your feedback. I will probably be starting several threads over the next several weeks because he turned it all over to us, and the contractor is starting demo July 20. My sister and I have selected all the materials (this is a whole house remodel): flooring, kitchen and bath counters, cabinets, back splashes, shower tile, etc. I'm going to talk to him about deleting the tub tomorrow. I have been asked by the family to be the "chief of staff and communications director", my DS is the "cabinet secretary of design, organization and shopping." The secretary of design, organization and shopping is going up to the house next week with her DH to choose stack-stone for rocking the 2 fireplaces and cleaning out the house, tossing/donating to get it ready for demo....See MoreShower curb installation
Comments (7)Did you use a pre-made shower pan that was designed for curbless installation? To get the proper slope and distance from the floor level to the drain, most curbless pans must be recessed below the lever of the bathroom floor. This can be sometimes be accomplished by removing the subfloor and dropping it between the floor joists to lower the floor. Curbless showers are needed for wheelchair access, so Schluter and others sell pans that are designed for a near-zero entry height (I think code allows 1/2" for the wheelchair to roll over). However, you really need to fully prep the floor (framing, height, etc.) and do everything according to manufacturer's directions. Comments (6)It has red guard over cement board and some sort of red guard tape/liner over the liquid red guard on the inside of the curb. This is not the best picture to show it because it is covered with messy tile installation debris. I do believe they screwed/nailed the cement board into the inside of the curb though which isn't a good idea. Second photo shows a screw or nail. Under the cement board is the shower liner which was pierced a few times due to the shower door being installed backwards and after that, they got a new faux marble curb because the old one had multiple holes in it....See Moredekeoboe
