You need to visit www.grisoft.com and download the free 7.5 version. You have been exposed to threats since the end of January. Get the new version, install it and immediately go for the latest updates

Yes Sapphires, AVG 7.5 is compatible but if you also have Zonealarm it is no longer supported for Windows 98.

As you start the install for 7.5 it will remove 7.1 for you, unless you prefer to remove it yourself first of course. There is no advantage but some like to do it that way.

If you go here, you'll see a list of free AV programs. Click on the AntiVir Personal Edition, on the summery page it says:
The product combines first-class detection rates and ease of use with a top performance that protects your computer safely and hardly burdens older PCs.

I have it on an older laptop and like it. I've been reading posts elsewhere, where AVG seems to be giving a lot of false positives.

Sapphires you might consider changing from Zonealarm in the near future because it no longer supports your Windows 98. This does not have the same urgency as changing your anti virus but should be done at some point.

Comodo, linked below, is very similar to Zonealarm in that it pops up near the clock when looking for permission or denial. There are other free firewalls just as good of course. I use this on my main computer along with their anti virus. A word of caution though if you use the Comodo anti virus, for some reason Windows XP refuses to recognise it and tells me I am exposed. I am not, it is working just great.

Thank you for straightening me out Cat. I had not realised Comodo was no use for windows 98.

Sappires you go right ahead and install AVG 7.5, it is good for your computer. Plus I have linked another firewall for you to consider. Agnitum's Outpost is another free firewall and can be used on your computer. I have it on one of mine here but the settings are not quite as easy as you are used to with Zonealarm. Just needs a little more patience before clicking on things till you get comfortable with the program.

Sapphires, yep 7.5 AVG, should be compatible with your computer, although watch it carefully, because it didnt work well at all on my neighbors Windows 98SE, so I uninstalled it and used Avast. Good Luck :-)Cat
