Each Dell computer, depending on the date of manufacture, is shipped with either a Microsoft Windows OEM CD, Dell Product Recovery CD or no CD at all. If no CD is supplied then you have to create your own through Windows itself. As you already know. You have two options to create a Recovery Media - DVD Discs or USB Flash Drive. You can go with either of the options. You will need two (Could vary depending on model) 4.7GB DVD Discs or one 8 GB or larger USB Flash Drive accordingly. See link for a basic idea. Your model may vary in the amount of disks you need and exact approach taken. Do you have the exact model # of your desktop? and the operating system installed? it might have affected the picture you are using for your wallpaper try choosing a new wallpaper and see if that square goes away. also check your wallpaper settings to see how it is set to portray your wallpaper. It is better to get an actual wallpaper that is sized for your monitor resolution, this site will automatically determine your proper size, once you select a wallpaper click on it to go to the download page there you will see where it says your resolution is and has the number, for example mine is 1280x1024 where you see that click on that number and it will automatically size it for your screen then right click on the sized image and save it to your pc, then go to your wallpaper area and browse to that saved file and select it as your wallpaper. "LOL" Cboy yep I am quick for sure. Ha! I followed your instructions and then I rebooted to make sure those icons would stay in place. Before I posted here I wanted to make sure that everything was working normal, after I rebooted walla those icons came back. "Smiles" Thank you so much for your help. This was a simple fix but I didn't know it at the time. I right clicked on the desktop to find that the backround had been changed, so I changed that but I had forgotten how to get the icons back. I still don't know how the backround got changed and my right clicking on the desktop was a stab in the dark, but when I did that I remembered to check the backround and that is when I discovered that what I was thinking was a white screen turned out to be an internet wallpaper backround. Myself I don't like that even being there, it gives you a false impression of something being wrong because it shows a white screen with gray lines.
