php5.ini file problem

I'm completely new to this particular forum, so I don't really know what the level of "expertise" is here or whether this issue can be resolved here, but I'm not sure where else to look. I've inherited a GardenWeb related plant swap website. The original owner died, and I was able to download some of the code before her personal hosting account expired. I am now trying to rebuild it, including a PHP application, on my own hosting account.

I have a GoDaddy IIS7 Windows account and have to keep it that way. From what I understand, GoDaddy leaves it up to me to supply my own php5.ini file. Everyone else tells me to contact GoDaddy and GoDaddy tells me I'm on my own. I finally found a generic php5.ini file on php.net. I changed the SMTP server from localhost to my server, but am not sure of what else might need to be changed or how to find that out. When I loaded the file onto the server and recycled my app pool, I started getting a 500 internal server error when I load my PHP application page. One complicating factor is that I have seen this error before, so am only about 90% sure that it is related to the new ini file.

As you can probably tell, I'm completely new to this stuff. Is there anyone here that might be able to help me if I provided a copy of the php5.ini file?

I have been ALL THROUGH the GoDaddy forum as well as many pages of search results from Google. I did that shortly after I started looking at the problem. While the title of the thread you found appears to indicate that the issue will be addressed, it really isn't at all, if you read the actual posts.

I need either a sample generic php5.ini file that is compatible with a GoDaddy IIS 7 Windows server, or, someone that knows which parameters need to be changed in an existing php5.ini file and what the correct entries are for my GoDaddy server.

Found the problem. Service provider is making some major changes to the servers and the way we get email. I can't say the changes will be for the better (but they say it). Anyone ever heard of MailFoundry? It is the new service my provider will be using. Don't see how it can be better than Postini. Maybe I'm using the wrong terminology--is a cache the same thing? I'm trying to get rid of files that have been stored without my knowledge and that are for "cookie" purposes. I did this once before with instructions on a different forum to clear up some space, but have since lost the directions. The computer forum has a page entitled: "Cache Clean-Up and Cache Size" and this is what I was trying to follow.

Do you know the path to the file like c:\ mydocuments\donna\roamingcvcs.exe----. The path would look something like that. You can also up-load the file to the link below and get a report to see if it's malware related. Simply go the the site browse for the file on the pc and double click it Virus Total will analyze it and create a report. provide a link to the report please. I feel your pain from here. I know nothing of this stuff. I do now an IT Guy I frequently ask questions. I'll run buy him for you.

That would be awesome! I'm pretty sure the problem is unique to GoDaddy (something about changes they have made for server security).

At this point I think their poor customer support is either because A) they don't know, or B) they don't really want anyone except the total experts using PHP on their servers. Dealing with them has been like talking to someone that doesn't speak English and wouldn't be interested in what I had to say even if they could understand me. LOL

I was going to post the file on here, but Gardenweb won't let it though (probably too long). If your friend thinks he has any ideas, I could email it to you.

I don't know about their level of expertise but I might suggest that you're only going to get so much support when spending $5 per month for hosting.

Well, it turns out that I can address this problem a different way, and that is what I am going to try to do. Thanks Zep for offering to try to help, but I've moved on to another possible solution now.
