Rama-Lama Ding Dong
I must comment that this group is cooler than one of my game forums.
Everyone has adjusted to the fact that XP Sp2 doesn't particularly work very well on 256 MB of RAM. Unbelievably, on a game forum no less, that when I made the remark that playing such a large game (and it is huge) as Morrowind 512MB of RAM is going to cause problems. They shouted that there should be no problems running XP Sp2 on 256MB (while they themselves have 1 GB installed). And Morrowind is more than fine on XP with 512.
Get this...they recommend that 512MB is OK but the forum generally advises that Morrowiind will crash to the desk top every 20 minutes because it "does".
Duhhh Dude.
Without IE7, I could play all day without a crash. With IE7 and the new Window's added security that came with it. I crash within 3 hours. But never-the-less is not every 20 minutes.
My Ram meter says I use anywhere from 400 to 500 MBs of RAM just to play the game. Actually from posts from many game forums as well as purchasing sites, a rule of thumb is to take the recommended amount of RAM on the game package and double it for safe playability. All game companies underestimate their Ram requirements...they just do.
My argument with these bozos (and they are) is about RAM and usgage by individual programs and peripherals. Is there any definitive way to determine how much exactly my laser mouse hog uses, XP usess, keyboard uses without uninstalling everything and waching the RAM meter as install each individual item? They would say I have leakage anyway.
I should probably let it go and just let them crash every 20 minutes in their ignorant bliss...honestly. (Of course since Morrowind is a 2002 game, it is only us poor slobs that play, those with better computers and gpu's play better, later games).
