Or sometimes just as empty of meaning: "Baby Shark, do do do do do....."

I dunno.....I think that modern song lyrics can be just as repetitive, meaningless, banal or even as weird as those from previous generations. It is the music that makes the difference. Today they tend to have a rhythm or beat that appeals to 'today's youth' regardless of what the lyrics might be conveying.

When I was a young thing I wondered about some of the songs that were "hits" Winchester Cathedral comes to mind. Never a lamer song on earth,

Do you think so, patricia? That's a cynical thought. I think there was a sub-genre of goofy songs, those you mentioned and many others like Roger Miller and Jerry Reed's silliness (Dang Me, When You're Hot You're Hot and others) and other songs like They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha, etc., that did attract some attention.

My dad has sang a bunch of these including "She has freckles on her butt, but she's pretty".
