I own and have installed quite a few photo editing programs but I prefer to use Picasa 3 (which, btw, is free) because it is so simple to use to upload to online albums (and their storage site with album(s) is also free up to 1 gig of media). They also provide the code to use to easily insert photos. Front Page server I doubt is found for free and 100mb of picture serving,,, if lots of visitors is gonna cost you extra on bandwidth usage. So pay attention to the fine print if you're gonna give somebody a credit card for that. You might be suddenly surprised at a whopper bill ... bandwidth usage goes up also while you're editing pages ... A mirror host on a lan server before updating is a very good idea.

I am starting to read some of the fine print. The Flickr limit of only 200 photos available for viewing at a time - and only being able to upload a certain number per month - are dealbreakers for me. When I finally get around to organizing my photos so I can share them with family and friends - I don't want to have to only upload a small number of them per month - I want to do them all. I imagine that after the initial batch, there won't be as many - until I digitize my slides - then I'll have another batch, etc. I know folks like Flickr - but those 2 limitations are big ones for me. I finally found the full list of services that can be used with framechannel - it does also include smugmug - and picasa, photobucket, webshots, flickr, facebook. Only photobucket and picasa will work on my Tivo. If there were a way to access my photos from my computer to my Tivo (and there must be) - then I wouldn't have to worry about using a hosting service to view photos on the tv - and I could just use the service above the most meets my needs. Anyone know if I can get my computer's photos to show up on my Tivo (I know this is getting far afield of the topic). I think using multiple hosting services will be a hassle for me - so as good as imageshack sounds, if it doesn't work with framechannel, it might not be best for me. before I rule it out, Raven, can you tell me what the firefox extensions for imageshack allow you to do that's so handy? I would like easy of uploading, no limits on how much to upload or store (although I don't imagine storing tons - I do think it would be more than 200 pictures - and periods of more heavy uploading than others), good organization. I guess so far it's between photobucket, picasa and smugmug. Further pointers and considerations are still appreciated. Lynn.

a few things you want to check when looking at the free hosting sites, check their dedicated forums see if there are good topics and recent topics also check some of the websites those people have built using the hosting company. Look for the very annoying toolbars some put at the bottom of your website that are linked to things like facebook, twitter etc, they are worse than ads in my book. I know that x10hosting does use those you can check their forum and view some of their sites and you will see what I mean. I do not mind a plain old ad banner all those jumping and annoying things I really hate. you can find out a lot just by doing some reading in the various forums dedicated to each hosting company.
