Sorry to have to post this here; I am still unable to register at Landzdown. If someone could post this over there, I'd appreciate it very much. I completed the instructions, and had just copied the combofix log and was about to post it here when the screen suddenly went black and then the blue screen came on. It says: A Problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. BAD_POOL-CALLER If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or softwar is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows jupdates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F to select Advanced Strtup Options, and then select safe mode. Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance. I just typed all of that here (I'm on a different computer) and the blue screen is still up, and the computer is making "working" noise. Should I just turn the power off? I have no idea what to do now. Thanks, Sue

fwiw I've run startup repair on win7 a few times. It needs to be run back to back without trying to boot into windows, or it looses count and runs the same first run repair process each time. With my laptop, when startup repair finishes and restarts the computer, then I have to push my boot from cd key quickly again or its lost that ability to count. It would tell you in the reports run once, 2x or 3x. First run is I dont remb, 30 or 40 minutes for win7. Second run is maybe just 2 minutes. Third run would be the same quick, or slighly quicker than 2nd run. And it aways says something about 'startup repair can not repair this computer automatically' I assume it says this because nothing was wrong. I just wanted my partition tables/names microsoft style after using a 3rd party tool to resize partitions.

many pc companies put a separate partition on the drive and label it D, it contains everything that came on the pc when you got it and that is what you use should you need to reformat, they do that now instead of giving you the actual cd's to be able to go back to the factory setup. In system restore settings you can tell it which drives to set restore points for. to find out if you have sp3 you should be able to go to start> add remove programs, make sure show updates is checked at the top and then look down the list for the windows update service pack3, also you can right click on My computer choose properties then on the General tab it will tell you what you have. There in that same area if you click on the system restore tab you can see which drives it is monitoring, for example mine has C and D and both are showing as being monitored as it should be.

Hi jane, See if this will help: 1.) Click Start, and then click Run. 2.) Copy and paste or type the following command in the Open box, and then click OK: mmsys.cpl 3.) Click to select the Place volume icon in the taskbar check box. 4.) Click OK. Let us know if that helps. Also, you said XP2. Did you mean XP SP2? If so, you really should install SP3 in order to receive all the necessary Security Updates. You may also want to run some cleaners to clean out the Temp. files, etc. that may be slowing it down. It may even have a few infections on it so I would also run Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware not to mention disk clean and defragging. May help it run faster and smoother. Let us know if you'd like the links and instructions for the above. Donna
