The knob is sticking on the bezel (ring). Very easy fix. First, try to see where the knob is rubbing on the bezel so you know which way to move it. (If you are anal, you can mark it with chalk or a soft pencil.) Pull the knob off the shaft. The bezel is held in place with two screws. Photo below. (Thanks to GWbasic who posted the photo last July in an NXR thread). Use a #2 phillips screw driver to loosen the screws and reposition the bezel. Retighten the screws. Push the knob back in place. It seems to me that forum readers periodically post about wanting to replace their old, noisy bathroom fans with a new, quiet one -- so all you have to do is wait and pounce on someone getting rid of their old noisy fan! And it'll probably only cost you a few bucks for shipping! ;) Seriously, though, I'm not sure why you would want a noisy fan or white noise in the bathroom, when you say the problem is that people outside the room hear the bathroom noises coming form within. A noisy fan would just re-create the situation you have now: the bathroom occupants think their noises are masked by the fan noise, but outside the room, people hear everything. I'd think if you had a quiet fan in the bathroom, you'd at least remove that mask, and the bathroom occupants might be more aware of the amount of noise they're making. If, on the other hand, you're asking about a bathroom fan which is so powerful it sucks up all noise, like a black hole absorbs light, then that would be pretty cool -- but I don't think any such thing exists. Fans can't keep noise in; only better walls can door can do that. Perhaps you could do the wals and ceiling with carpet to absorb the noise? ;) -- Eric

P.S. to my question. The guy that came out a couple weeks ago said he replaced a part (looks like a can type part that fit in his hand). He showed me the old one and said he happened to have one in his car. I didn't see him come in with it though. I'm wondering what that was. At the time the issue was that the fan wasn't spinning. It does spin now but noisy. Maybe I should just call them again if the squeeling is something minor. They are cheaper prices. Thank you.

I have a Viking Dble wall oven and have the same experience - it happens on all cycles, but the convection fans are really loud. I read about this here, before making the decision but also remember reading that it wasn't that bad, and that most ovens do the same thing - to keep the electronics from overheating. At first it didn't bother me, but after cooking for 2 days for T-day - OMG, it is really annoying. I think it only bothers me when I'm tired though. As soon as I turn the oven on and hear it, I have this feeling of dread - the same noise, again. A trick for after you've finished cooking - leave the door open for a bit. That seems to shorten the cooling cycle after you've finished cooking. One thing I noticed, when i've opened the door while cooking, the fan seems to inhale the smoke and heat, like an exhaust fan or OTR fan. I guess that's a good thing, but I don't have electronics on mine - jobs the old-fashioned knobs. Not sure why they need cooling off. I'm trying to get over it, but it is still a pain. I have to say though, the thing cooks like a champ! I used the Convection Roast feature - a BEAUTIFUL, evenly browned turkey, with no basting, in 1.5 hours!!! It was 15lbs and tasted amazingly good - not dry either. Yesterday I looked at the ovens while walking into the kitchen, pointed to them, smiled and said, "YOU ROCK!!!!" I love my ovens, and the Induction Cooktop. My only complaint is that the oven doesn't shut off when the timer goes off. Trade-offs, I guess. I'm glad to have the C-Bake - making CC cookies and maybe bread later today. gneegirl
