CD Drive not showing up

I learned in class yesterday an easy to to back up files. Go to any folder, select, right click, "send to" F drive which is my CD burner. Those steps went fine and when I got to choices as to how to open it each time(I think open it was the phrase), among several choices was "NO ACTION." For some reason I choose that one. At that point the F drive disappeared when I went looking for it. As I try these maneuvers again, I no longer have the choice of how to open it and therefore I'm not taken to the F drive.

When I go to My Computer it does show up but when I click on "Open" I get this message....

Windows Explorer.... F:\is not accessible. Incorrect function.

When I look at "Properties" on the (F:)CD drive it appears that there is no free space, the entire disk is blue. I put in another blank CD and a blank DVD and each time the disk appears to have no free space.

I have Windows XP and have not installed SP3. My AVG antivirus was run today and all seems ok.

Any ideas?

This problem may occur if the CD recording program from Roxio Easy CD Creator is installed on the computer.

I'm only looking at this error----> F:\is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Roxio Easy CD Creator------>See if this programs lives in the add/remove program list....

I am assuming that your cd rom drive is in fact writable and you have used it before, and you have also used those blank cd before without a problem.

Forgot to mention I have Roxio Easy Cd and DVD Creator 6. I just Googled the error message and see lots of discussion about that error message.

I have never gone to the Roxio website to get updates, maybe I should?

Should I uninstall and reinstall Roxio 6?

Did this happen because I chose the "No Action" option?

Gadds, this stuff is difficult and annoying for a novice like myself.

Hi, back again, having gotten sidetracked researching a new computer system. I bought a Maxtor external Drive but I am taking it back after reading many many posts suggesting they fail more often than others. I also am finding that even when you use an external drive, that most people recommend that you back up to DVD/CD as well. So I am wondering if you have to back up the external drive, then why have one at all? I didn't want to spend the money on small flash drives to 'store' my data on, because it would not be cheap in comparison to much more storage space on an external drive for the money. But I think I would like to use ONE flashdrive? memory stick? [Are they the same, btw?] just to transfer my data from the old computer to the new. They can be written over repeatedly, correct? After I am finished transferring, I would like to use the flash drive to put my most valuable docs and photos onto the flash drive and use it to store in a safety deposit box. Is that possible? I am thinking that once I get onto a new machine with a new DVD player that would also allow me to write to a DVD, that I could back up that way. Am I making sense? Any experiences that would suggest I should think of doing something else? Oh, btw, I do have a wireless home network and two laptops use the network. One is a Macbook and at the moment one is a PC. Is there anything I should know about formatting my data so it can be used by both Win/PC and Mac? Any storage media I can get that will allow me to use it on both? that is the whole point you use the image program to capture the image before something happens, then should you have any issues with the pc you simply reload the saved image and you are back to the time the image was taken just like a snapshot so you do want to do the occasional image backup so you have somewhat recent images. That way you are not just backing up your documtents and files you are also backing up your entire windows operating system fully updated and all your settings etc. You never want to wait till it is too late to do any type of backup. If you had to do a regular re-install that would mean you would need either your windows cd or the recovery cd that will bring it all the way back to how it was when you bought it which means you would need to do a LOT of updating of the operating system, redo all your settings then go through all your files and data and insert them in. Imaging is the fastest way to go and much easier in the long run. I use my external drive only when I need it I do not leave it connected. It can be left connected if you choose to do it that way. If they are extremely important you might consider the thumb drive and a CD. No storage media is full proof. Though I have never had a thumb drive fail I have heard and read about it. I have had storage CDs fail. I am not sure if e-mails would open for viewing when stored on an external media. E-mails by design are in a .eml format. When you save an e-mail to a media you might want to save them in another format, perhaps .txt or html. This would allow them to be read directly from the storage media rather than having to import them into Outlook or having to install another application for reading. DA

That's what I figured. Don't know the model. The warantee has long expired, too. I just ordered an external drive. I love a problem, though, and was curious to if I could try something. Thanks again.

I know nothing about this program is it free? If you don't use it uninstall it,

Now remember when your going to uninstall a program always Google "Uninstall Roxio Easy CD creator" This will at least give you an Idea if there are any issues.

Yes this is a free program put on my computer a year or so ago by my computer guy. He's a smart guys who builds and repairs computers. In the past I know he has found problems with certain programs and then no longer uses them.

I have used this program for burning CD's and for doing back-ups of My documents.

I am sure the CD's and DVD's were blank.

When I back up photos and documents I use the Ashampoo Burning Studio. I have Nero but I do not use for backing up items. You can find a free program for burning CDS and other documents at the website. I have no connection with the company other than being a satisfied customer of their products.

Then you may try to update the program I did not read all the information about Roxio Easy CD creator and perhaps that was an option to get rid of---> F:\is not accessible Incorrect function, if updating is unsuccessful I would uninstall it, since it is free and see if that gets rid of the error you are getting.
