CD Drive not showing up

I learned in class yesterday an easy to to back up files. Go to any folder, select, right click, "send to" F drive which is my CD burner. Those steps went fine and when I got to choices as to how to open it each time(I think open it was the phrase), among several choices was "NO ACTION." For some reason I choose that one. At that point the F drive disappeared when I went looking for it. As I try these maneuvers again, I no longer have the choice of how to open it and therefore I'm not taken to the F drive.

When I go to My Computer it does show up but when I click on "Open" I get this message....

Windows Explorer.... F:\is not accessible. Incorrect function.

When I look at "Properties" on the (F:)CD drive it appears that there is no free space, the entire disk is blue. I put in another blank CD and a blank DVD and each time the disk appears to have no free space.

I have Windows XP and have not installed SP3. My AVG antivirus was run today and all seems ok.

Any ideas?

This problem may occur if the CD recording program from Roxio Easy CD Creator is installed on the computer.

I'm only looking at this error----> F:\is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Roxio Easy CD Creator------>See if this programs lives in the add/remove program list....

I am assuming that your cd rom drive is in fact writable and you have used it before, and you have also used those blank cd before without a problem.

Forgot to mention I have Roxio Easy Cd and DVD Creator 6. I just Googled the error message and see lots of discussion about that error message.

I have never gone to the Roxio website to get updates, maybe I should?

Should I uninstall and reinstall Roxio 6?

Did this happen because I chose the "No Action" option?

Gadds, this stuff is difficult and annoying for a novice like myself.

What's the make an model # We ask because, basically we just Google the make and model with the word dissemble in the search terms and hope to find some sort of instructions, I don't recommend it, but we could try to find instructions and you may make a decision at that point in time. Hi, back again, having gotten sidetracked researching a new computer system. I bought a Maxtor external Drive but I am taking it back after reading many many posts suggesting they fail more often than others. I also am finding that even when you use an external drive, that most people recommend that you back up to DVD/CD as well. So I am wondering if you have to back up the external drive, then why have one at all? I didn't want to spend the money on small flash drives to 'store' my data on, because it would not be cheap in comparison to much more storage space on an external drive for the money. But I think I would like to use ONE flashdrive? memory stick? [Are they the same, btw?] just to transfer my data from the old computer to the new. They can be written over repeatedly, correct? After I am finished transferring, I would like to use the flash drive to put my most valuable docs and photos onto the flash drive and use it to store in a safety deposit box. Is that possible? I am thinking that once I get onto a new machine with a new DVD player that would also allow me to write to a DVD, that I could back up that way. Am I making sense? Any experiences that would suggest I should think of doing something else? Oh, btw, I do have a wireless home network and two laptops use the network. One is a Macbook and at the moment one is a PC. Is there anything I should know about formatting my data so it can be used by both Win/PC and Mac? Any storage media I can get that will allow me to use it on both? Am I missing something? No, you're not missing anything now, maybe someday when your photo collection grows. A DVD writer and dvd discs are fairly new to me. I downloaded Windows Vista Ultimate Beta from Microsoft and the file was around 2.5GB and I had to burn it to a DVD because of the size and to install it. Then I did a backup of my stuff like photos, music, documents, and downloaded programs that I'd been putting off for a long time. Amazing how much stuff will go on a DVD disc. Yea, 1GB jump drives are cool, that's big enough to hold the important things.

I found this at WorldStart which appeared in their Newsletter and it worked for me. I thought I would share it with others in case they have a similar problem. I quote: "Other Eject Options" I'm sure many of you have read our tips on how to eject a stuck CD from your computer, but even after going through all those steps, are you still having trouble getting that stubborn CD to come out? Sometimes those things can be so frustrating and after you mess with it for awhile, you probably just feel like throwing your whole computer out the window. Am I right? Well, before you go that far, give these alternative tricks a try. They may be just what you've been waiting for! First, try adding something to the CD. If you put an extra file or another song on it, that might be enough to coax it out. Also, when you're using a CD, make sure you eject it before you start up another program. If you leave the CD in its tray while you use other programs, it could cause some problems. Another thing to try is a simple reboot. Sometimes when you shut down your computer and then turn it back on, the CD will eject. Now, while all of those are good suggestions, they still might not work for you. So, if that's the case, you may want to try the other tips I mentioned in the first paragraph. One of them tells you to try the traditional method of right clicking on your CD drive and choosing Eject. I know that's the problem you're having, but if you try it more than once, it could finally open. You never know! The other tip we have tells you how to use a paperclip to get your CD out. You can read all about that here. Either way you go, I hope you're finally able to get your CD out so that you can enjoy your life in happy CD bliss once again!" end of quote.... IT WORKED FOR ME. Also, I bought a Laser Lens Cleaner for my CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM and DVD....and they are now cleaned.

I know nothing about this program is it free? If you don't use it uninstall it,

Now remember when your going to uninstall a program always Google "Uninstall Roxio Easy CD creator" This will at least give you an Idea if there are any issues.

Yes this is a free program put on my computer a year or so ago by my computer guy. He's a smart guys who builds and repairs computers. In the past I know he has found problems with certain programs and then no longer uses them.

I have used this program for burning CD's and for doing back-ups of My documents.

I am sure the CD's and DVD's were blank.

When I back up photos and documents I use the Ashampoo Burning Studio. I have Nero but I do not use for backing up items. You can find a free program for burning CDS and other documents at the website. I have no connection with the company other than being a satisfied customer of their products.

Then you may try to update the program I did not read all the information about Roxio Easy CD creator and perhaps that was an option to get rid of---> F:\is not accessible Incorrect function, if updating is unsuccessful I would uninstall it, since it is free and see if that gets rid of the error you are getting.
