I have currently 4 tablets, one that is strictly an ereader, I got each of us one, very inexpensive. My husband loves it and uses his daily, I really don't use that one anymore but it will be his backup. I got the first pandigital novel 7 inch tablet which was a great tablet but it is outdated as far as the version of android on it goes, that one I passed down to a family member. I also have a 7 inch Sylvania that was also inexpensive which I used a lot and still do on occasion, that one will not be updated either but is fine for my husband to use to read the kindle books on and play solitaire and check email or Google something which is about the extent of his use. The one I use daily is my Vizio Vtab 1008 tablet it is still being updated and it will get the latest version of android ics in the near future, Vizio mentioned that recently when showing the new 10 inch tablet they are releasing soon. I love my tech toys but I don't spend a lot of money on them. The Vizio is the most expensive one and I got it as a refurbished unit for a very good price, luckily it was perfect. The laptop is a gift I got for my husband, I rarely use it, I do the updates on it. I do have an Acer netbook that I did use quite a bit, and still do when I travel, I prefer the keyboard. For daily use my desktop is custom made has 2 hard drives one with Linux one with windows. I use Mepis Linux pretty much exclusively for daily use. I do have a couple of other towers but they are backup. Luckily my husband supports my addict.... Um I mean hobbies lol. He has been urging me to get the nexus already! I am resisting so far. I guess it is my one vice. It could be worse lol

I just wanted to jump in and say there are many many more great tablets out there other than the ipad and much cheaper too. I have a few and absolutely love them, I can do pretty much what I do on my pc and I have several different ereader apps on them so I can read kindle format books, I can read epub format like nook books and get ebooks from the library since they also use epub format. That way I can get my books from pretty much anywhere I am not limited to just Amazon. I have lots of free books I get from sites all over the internet. I tried my brother in laws kindle before I ever made a purchase and it just was not for me, the flash of page turns messed with me and gave me headaches. And if I was going to spend the money I wanted one that did more than just one thing. If you do searches here and at the computer help forum you will find many of us here have other tablets like the Pandigital Novel, and other Android OS tablets. I just recently bought a sylvania one which I am really enjoying. I do have one device that is strictly an ereader, it has color and it connects to wifi so I can get books directly to it, it is a Lookbook and they have had them on sale from time to time at CVS for $50 an amazing price it looks very much like the kindle and it comes with a very nice case. Do some searches here for the many many threads we have where we discuss them and the various options. I have paid under $150 for all of mine. I just can not see paying so much more for an ipad. My hairdresser was looking at my new tablet recently and said she liked it a lot better than her ipad, to me the ipad it a little large and heavy that was her complaint also. I also love the Andorid OS and all the tons of apps out there you can add to the device. I have a ton of games on mine and like I said several ereader apps, I watch youtube, videos, music, pictures, surf, post here from them, do my email. Honestly I am rarely on my desktop anymore since I can sit anywhere in the house with my tablet, and it is lighter weight than my netbook (netbook is just a small version of a notebook or laptop) Pandigital Novel eReaders LookBook a great place to see how many of the tablets are available is to check out China Grabber, I would not get any that were not at least Android 2.2 they can do a lot more stuff.There are some however that come with android 2.1 and then do an update which brings them up to 2.2 which is how my sylvania was. Android 2.2 Froyo Tablets here are some that have Android 3.0 which is the most recent versions android 3.0 tablets" So don't think just ipad if you do you are really limiting yourself. These little tablets pack a big punch and can do a LOT of stuff. AND none of the tablets I have use a cell phone connection so there is absolutely NO monthly charges involved, they connect to wifi easily and you can do all your internet stuff that way. And if you "make the offer to lend" a book but the recipient doesn't accept it within 7 days, or rejects it altogether, you cannot lend it to anyone else. You'll also find many books for less - over 135,000 titles are priced under $5.99" I don't think it's that any particular publishing house won't allow any of its books to be sold to Canada (or any country other than the USA), but it's more on a book-by-book basis. It's just a matter of time before all books available in the USA will be available in other countries. But, as it says on the Amazon web site, you can check the availability of books at any time, so if you're thinking of getting a Kindle, look to see if books you'd want are available. Nooks cannot be sold to anyone outside of the USA, so even with limited e-book availability, the Kindle is obviously the better choice. Nook owners keep mentioning the ability to get library books on their Nooks. I've searched for information on the Barnes and Noble web site, but cannot find anything about this. So, the only comment I can make is that if you have to go to the library to "borrow" the book onto your Nook, I don't see any advantage to that at all. It's so nice, with the Kindle, to be able to download books wherever you are at any time of the day or night. And I would imagine that you only get to have the library book for a specific period of time, and I don't like that at all. When you buy a Kindle book (or download a free Kindle book), it's yours forever. Even if you delete it from your Kindle, you can still download it again for free because it's in your Amazon Kindle account. Kindles in the USA have a one-year warranty. Kindles sold to folks in Canada have a one-year warranty. Canadians would have to send their Kindle to the USA for warranty service. I'm in California, and I'd have to send my Kindle elsewhere in the USA for warranty service, so we're even on that one. :-) Murray's Mom -- LOL! We have at least 800 physical books here in the house (hardbound and paperbacks; and, no, we haven't read all of them), but that didn't stop us from getting Kindles! We have the 2nd generation Kindles, so ours hold approximately 1,500 books each. The latest generation Kindles hold at approximately 3,500 books each. It's a heck of a lot easier to carry 100 books with you on a Kindle than it is to haul 100 physical books around with you! In fact, that's one of the driving reasons when I bought a Kindle for my husband. We both love to read, and when we go on vacation, we both always take books with us. But Hubs pretty much only buys hardbound books, and he tends to buy HUGE (thick) books. Try hauling four big, heavy, hardbound books in a carryon when you're flying somewhere. Ouch. Carrying a Kindle is a breeze. You can pretty much always have the Kindle with you, so you can read whenever you have a few minutes free - like waiting for a meeting to start, or while waiting for a bridge to "do its thing." We have two bridges in Sacramento - the Tower Bridge is a vertical lift bridge, and the I Street Bridge is a metal truss swing bridge. If you get stopped at the I Street Bridge as it begins "its thing," you're going to be there for at least 15 minutes. The Tower Bridge takes about 7-8 minutes. Many medical offices don't have magazines in waiting rooms now because of the risk/potential of passing germs, so if you have your Kindle with you, you get to read what you want to read while you're waiting. :-)

That looks like my Kindle Susan. I think DD said it was the 4? Of course I am new at this too, so take that with a grain of salt. That's a good price for the cover also. I ordered one from Amazon and it was a little over $10. Thanks for all the information, I have 21 books on my Kindle now! All free so far, I know I will buy some in the future, but enjoying free right now! LOL I've started a new saved folder for all the websites and once things settle down I plan on putting some up for lending. I am in the middle of a paperback book, it's slow going and I am SO tempted to give up on the book and start one on my Kindle! I think I will have to enlarge the print on mine just a bit. I can't read it with my glasses on, but can read it fine without the glasses. Just depends on where I will be reading it I guess as to whether I enlarge it or not.
